On a sunny day, I was searching for a restaurant near the office to take in the nice weather. How about a patio by the water? We walked into Mill Marine Bistro, a neighbourhood bar in Coal Harbour that is overlooking the Waterfront.
Food
The restaurant offers pub comfort food. For two people, we ordered an appy and a pizza to share. First, Sliders as appy. I have to start by saying that I’m not a burger person. I actually don’t eat burger patties. But sliders have been something that I want to try - I guess the size of it is quite intriguing. Turns out I did quite enjoy their sliders. It’s made of Angus Chuck beef and it’s quite moist. The chipotle mayo added a bit of a kick to the patty yet it’s not overpowering.
For pizza we had the Red Hot + Blue Pizza. Red is from the hot sauce and blue is from the blue cheese, along with chicken and some mozza. I really liked the concept of the pizza, but the execution wasn’t as good as I anticipated. I couldn’t really taste the blue cheese and the hot sauce was too mild. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a good pizza – I was hoping that with all these components the flavour would be more intense. And I liked the thin crust. It’s not doughy like what sometimes pizza crust may get.
Service
The quality of service was very good. We were served by a new guy. Understanding that it’s only his first day, we didn’t give him so much of a hard time. Although he might not have answers to all of our questions, he’s definitely trying his best and being very attentive to the customers.
I also enjoyed watching the hostess interacted with a customer’s dog. This is not a upscale fine-dining restaurant, so it’s great to socialize with customers and have some fun at work.
Ambiance
This restaurant definitely has one of the best views. It’s right by the water and while eating, you can watch floatplanes takeoff and land, and bikers and people stroll along the waterfront. I saw a customer help two other ladies to plan their stay in Vancouver. We were chitchatting with some other customers. The atmosphere is so casual and relaxing. On a nice sunny day, what more can you ask for?
Final Thoughts
This restaurant would be great for friends to hang out in the summer. Good food and great view.
