Part of a birthday celebration, six of us went to Monk McQueens for a Sunday brunch. It’s a great location for group dinner or lunch, because it’s a huge space. In fact, it’s one of the popular wedding venues.

A friend of mine was intrigued by a deal from Hapa Umi. $22.50 per person for a 3-course dinner. The restaurant doesn’t offer a 3-course menu on a regular basis; therefore a special 3-course dinner was put together for buyers of this deal. We had a choice of 3 items each for both appy and entree, and for dessert, we just chose from the regular dessert menu.

We went to a launch event to celebrate the addition of the “Blue Ribbon Classics” menu to the p2b Bistro and Bar at the Renaissance Vancouver Harbourside. The “Blue Ribbon Classics” menu is a collection of signature dishes by Eric and Bruce Bromberg, chefs and founders of the famous Blue Ribbon Restaurants. All in all, I think this is a great selection for happy hour or appetizers at an evening gathering. The venue, p2b Bistro, is gorgeous with floor to ceiling windows and a Coal Harbour view. It’s like a patio seating without having to go outside.

The restaurant isn’t about quantity but quality. It doesn’t offer you a whole lot of option but everything they put out is solid, of decent quality. I don’t have much complaint about the flavouring of the food, but more about the choice (or the lack) of dishes. And this is not the place to go for fancy Italian dishes – we’ve got plenty of fine-dining Italian restaurants in the city for that. If you want unlimited amount, good quality of simple Italian dishes combined with live high-class entertainment, this is the place for it.

Getting a call at 4pm from Chilli House Thai Bistro that they ran out of ingredients for one appetizer and one entree for Dine Out just made you have doubts about the restaurant didn’t it? I felt the same way when my friend told me about it as we were heading for our 5:30pm dinner. With a curious mind, we went to the restaurant anyway…There was nothing stunning about the food at Chilli House Thai Bistro. But there are two things I like about it: 1) there’s free underground parking at where the restaurant is and 2) it’s right by False Creek and it’ll be nice to go on a stroll after dinner there.
