Overview
Often referred to as the best soup place in town, The Soup Meister is a local business that produces soups, stocks and sauces. Located at the Lonsdale Quay, it claims to use only freshest ingredients available in all its products with no preservatives.
The retail outlet sells only a few varieties of “soup of the day”, but most of their business appears to be in frozen goods. The layout of the business is diner-like, with the kitchen/prep area in plain-sight.
What went in
With only three varieties of hot soup available (looks like one was erased, probably sold out earlier) on “tap”, there’s not a whole lot to choose from. We ordered a Mexican Bean and a Seafood Chowder, both in small. Each bowl of soup came with a large bun, which is awesome because I got to make my own bread bowl (best invention ever since the wheel). The soup was comforting; that’s probably the best way to describe it. The Mexican Bean was pretty similar to this chili recipe I’ve tried before. The Seafood chowder was a little fishy, but that’s not something that bothers me, and the flavours seem better balanced and more unique than the Mexican Bean. They didn’t impress me, but they didn’t disappoint either. I guess when it comes to something as basic as soup, it’s better not to mess with what works.
What came out
At 5 dollars a bowl, that’s a deal at Lonsdale Quay, where everything is priced like they are coated in gold. The portion is pretty decent, and if you are really hungry, a large bowl is only 80 cents more.
Service
You are buying soup from a counter: it’s basically Tim Horton’s without the donuts and sandwiches. It is what it is.
Conclusion
I wished there was more choices, because Mexican Bean didn’t even sound great in my head. The food didn’t blow my mind, but I couldn’t picture having anything else on a cold winter day at Lonsdale.

Rating System…
Not sure that I understand your rating system, could you explain it.

I’d be glad to Katherine.
Let’s take this post for example,
(Max Score: 10; Base Score: 5)
What went in (+/-2, 0) = 0
What came out (+/-1, 0) = 1
Service (+/-1, 0) = 0
Mr.’s Bonus (+/-1) = 0
Total Score – 6/10
The base score is the score I start with for any restaurant, before I develop any positive or negative reactions. So everyone is neutral in my mind before I try it out (thus 5/10).
The food served (what went in) is given a max. of 2 points or a min. of -2 points. If the food is mouth watering delicious, I will add 2 points onto the base 5 points. If the food is rancid puke, I will deduct 2 points from the base 5 points. In this case the food was just average, so I gave it a 0. The same principles apply to cost (what came out) and Service (Service).
Mr.’s Bonus is purely subjective (even more so than the review itself); if I got a good vibe from the place, it will get a +1, if it offended my character, it will get a -1. If it didn’t affect me at all, like this place, it would again get a 0.
This way, a restaurant could get a max of 10/10, or a min of 0/10 in a review (if you add/subtract the individual ratings; trust me the math works :D).
Hope that explains it, if not feel free to shoot me another question Katherine!
