On one of my rare afternoons off, I finally got the chance to try the Twisted Fork. For those of you who don’t know, it’s a little restaurant tucked away along Granville, right before the bridge. It’s easy to miss if you’re not paying attention, but they do have their iconic fork sitting above the large window.
We headed down around 12:30PM for a very late brunch on a Sunday, and it was a 45 min wait. Luckily, I wasn’t waiting alone so it wasn’t a big deal. I would say, most people who stuck around for the wait knew how good the food was.
The place was packed as expected. Interiors was small, cozy, with some unique decorations including a door up on the wall. The servers and the manager/owner were very friendly and informative.
I had the Eggs Benny with brioche. On top of my brioche was smoked salmon, poached egg, and hollandaise sauce with sides of sauteed spinach, baked beans, and hash browns. It was pretty damn near perfect. All the colours on my plate, the simple plating, the dripping hollandaise sauce when it came was my food porn for the week. The egg was poached perfectly, so that when it popped, that extra yummy yolk ran down to the slices of salmon, making each mouthful even more creamy. The spinach was decent, baked beans could have used a kick, like some paprika or herb mix, and the hash browns were a little on the salty side.
I also had the chance to try my boyfriend’s banana stuffed brioche — absolutely wonderful way to end a good weekend by the way. If you have a sweet tooth, even in the mornings, and like bananas, this would be exactly what you want, and more. It was sweet, but mostly from the ripened bananas. The cinnamon just gave the right amount of spice to help blend all that banana-y goodness.
And here’s a little food porn for those of you who are in love with brunch — whether it be night or day: http://youtu.be/5o3Hp93bfhY
If you’re up for a treat and willing to wait, would definitely recommend the Twisted Fork for brunch.
Happy eating!
