Continuing our journey from Part 1 of the Dishcrawl Kitsilano adventure, we took a short walk and stopped at Romer’s Burger Bar. When we sat down, I only had very little room for more food, so I was secretly hoping that they would give us small portions. Thankfully, they gave us the right amount of food (I know, it’s so defeating the purpose, but I didn’t want to waste any more food either!).

It was a trio of a slider-size Man’s Man Burger, mini Fries with Fresh Chopped Garlic & Sea Salt, and a side of Deep Fried Pickled Jalapeno. The Man’s Man Burger was quite good; the patty was juicy and I liked the crunch from the onion strings. Overall I did find the burger to be a bit salty, but I wasn’t quite sure what caused it. Could be the mustard or smoked alder salts. The Garlic Fries was sooo good! They weren’t double-fried but it’s light and crispy. I’m not a huge garlic person but for some reason I found these fries super addictive. The garlicy flavour was so prominent you wouldn’t miss it. Definitely not recommended for your first date or important business meeting. The Deep Fried Jalapeno made a nice crunchy snack on the side. It wasn’t overly spicy due to the pickling process, with just a little bit of heat that made it quite enjoyable.
Finally, our last stop, time for some desserts! We arrived at Scoop!, a frozen yogurt store in Kits. The store has such a warm and cozy feeling to it!

We were treated to some Original Frozen Yogurt with fresh strawberries, graham cracker crumbs and mochi balls. Because it was around Valentine’s Day, they also added pieces of pink and red M&M’s. The yogurt is not as dense as other ones I’ve had, a bit tart, reminding me of those Calpis drinks that you can get at Asian supermarkets or bubble tea houses. I like the combination of fresh fruit with different textures from cracker crumbs and mochi balls. The only downside was the M&M’s; I found them too sweet and the crunchy texture didn’t work for me.
The biggest surprise was probably the kids’ games and board games that were available to us, as well as a foosball table, bringing out our inner child. This would be a great spot to take your kids or meet up with friends, and spend an afternoon playing games while enjoying your frozen treat.
At the end of the evening, I went home stuffed and satisfied. Guided food tours like Dishcrawl provides you with the opportunity to try more than one restaurant at a time, and allows you to discover neighbourhood, hidden gems that you may not notice otherwise. I like the fact that the restaurants have been scouted out so you don’t have to worry about having a bad experience. This makes a great outing with friends, or even corporate, team-building event.
