Have you heard of the trendy Brown Sugar Pearl Latte? Almost all, if not all, bubble tea shops are making those. I have jumped on this BBT bandwagon and the most recent stop was visiting the Exposure Social House in Richmond. It took over the Shake Shake Tea space at Empire Centre.
Bubble Teas
Their Devil’s Fresh Milk (aka the Brown Sugar Pearl Latte) uses Avalon Organic Milk. The choice of milk made it taste quite rich, along with the caramel flavour in the brown sugar pearls. The pearls were warm, soft yet remain in good texture. Their sign said the Devil’s Fresh Milk is available at 1:30, 3:30, 5:30 and 8:30pm but we were there at 2:30pm on a Saturday and they still had it available.
I’ve always liked a good roasted milk tea at BBT places.
The Japanese Roasted Milk Tea here was quite good, although it didn’t have as much nutty flavour as I would’ve liked. I thought the one at Chatime is better. I ordered this with regular pearls and I quite like the flavour and texture of these as well.
Lastly, the Supreme Milk Tea comes with pudding at the bottom along with pearls. You also get to choose your tea. This one was with Assam tea and the tea flavour was quite prominent. It’s a fun drink given the combination of pudding and pearls.
Ambiance
The tea shop has an interesting vibe. It’s darker inside (contrasting the bright interior in most other BBT places) with a random collection of funky models on display and Asian raps playing in the background. Very Asian hipster feel. Apparently they also have DJ Night on Fridays.
Final Thoughts
While Exposure Social House doesn’t seem to be a place I would hang out a lot, I quite enjoyed their drinks, especially the Devil’s Fresh Milk. Parking is nuts at Empire Centre though, I would suggest to go straight into the multi-story building where Shiang Garden is, instead of circulating the grounds for open space.
