Black + Blue – Dine Out 2012

Despite the expected, typical hits & misses during Dine Out, I tend to use this period to try out new restaurants and assess the potential return in the future. If a restaurant could impress me during this time, it would probably be even better when visiting post Dine-Out. This year I continue this tradition, and first up, Black + Blue, the latest addition to the Glowbal Restaurant Group empire. Frankly I didn't know what to expect from this restaurant because I've heard mixed reviews about it, in fact mostly negative both from regular diners online and my coworkers. Keeping an open mind, I gave it a try.

Max’s Burgers – Sneak Preview (Opening Jan 23)

We were invited to the media event for Max's Burgers, which is opening next Monday, January 23. The restaurant is at Cambie and 8th, the location that was formerly the Max's Deli. Owners Bruce and David transformed it into this burger concept and invited Chef Connor Butler to come onboard. At this event we were served several items from its regular menu, as well as beverages, only in smaller size (e.g. slider vs burger). Since the portion is smaller, this may not necessarily reflect the true quality of the food, but I think it serves as a good indication of what you could expect at Max's.

Dine Out Vancouver Returns & Past Dine Out Reviews

Dine Out Vancouver 2012 is set for Jan 20-Feb 5, 2012 and is now open for reservations. In its 10th year, 230 restaurants are participating in this event, offering prix fixe menus at $18, $28 or $38. I thought I'd round up some past Dine Out experience that we have had in recent years (2009-2011), good and bad. Maybe this will help your research as you try to determine which ones to try.

[Recipe] Roast Leg of Lamb

Tammy left us a comment that she wanted the recipe of the roast leg of lamb from our Winter Solstice/early Christmas dinner. Instead of sending it to only her, I thought I'll share with everyone here.

Burgoo Bistro (Main Street)

I made a promise to myself that I wanted to go to Burgoo before my birthday in December. Why? I've heard some good things about it which got me really curious about this restaurant, yet every time I went it was just too busy that I couldn't bear the long wait. Finally came the day I celebrated my birthday with some friends, I told myself I had to make it happen. No matter what. Seven of us tiny Chinese people ended up squishing around a table of 4. Seriously, we made it work. Cozy but it worked.
