Joyce started VanFoodies.com in 2009 to write about one of her biggest interests: food. Whether they’re fine dining restaurants, neighbourhood gems, or hearty home cooking, you can read about them here. In addition to dining out in the Metro Vancouver area, you will also learn about the latest craft breweries, wineries, local culinary events, cafes and dessert hot spots here. Travelling? Don’t miss her dining experiences and outdoor adventures on the road.

I will be going to Vancouver in September on a ladies getaway (from Portland). We’re staying at L’Hermitage and intend to walk everywhere. Can you recommend any well kept secrets or neighborhood restaurants?
Thanks!

Hi Angela, thanks for checking out our blog! Your hotel is pretty much in the downtown core so your options are basically ENDLESS!
Depending on how much walking you want to do, here I have some suggestions for you that are fairly close to your hotel (about 15 minutes walk max):
– Il Giardino (Italian): https://vanfoodies.com/2010/04/28/il-giardino-restaurant/
– Japadog (Japanese Hot dog – it became a crowd’s favourite during the Winter Olympics): https://vanfoodies.com/2009/06/09/japadog/ (they recently opened a store on Homer Street that’s pretty close where you’ll be staying – the address is 530 Robson St)
– Guu Garden (Japanese Izakaya): http://www.guu-izakaya.com/garden/index.html (address M101-888 Nelson St.)
– Chambar (Belgian): https://vanfoodies.com/2010/01/03/chambar-restaurant/
– Uva (Lounge/wine bar): http://www.uvawinebar.ca/
– Bin 941 (Tapa): http://www.bin941.com/
– Sweeneys (Cafe): http://sweeneysyaletown.ca/
Check them out and see if anything caught your eyes. Or if you want something specific, give us a shout and we’ll give you some other recommendations.
I hope you ladies will have a fabulous time here!! 😉
Cheers,
Joyce
