RIP McRib

Visually speaking the patty is now just a rectangular block, where as (if I remember correctly) before, it took on the shape of a slab of ribs. Some might say that’s disturbing, but I thought the shape of it added charm. Now it’s just boring. The bun seems to be a slight improvement on whatever they use for regular sandwiches. There’s more texture and substance to them. The patty is very saucy, making it messy to eat and difficult to grab on to (the meat likes to slide).

Wok Box

Honestly I was rather hesitant when I first received the invitation to check out Wok Box. Asian stir-fry fast food usually isn't all that authentic, but the idea of having so many options at one location definitely intrigued me.

Beijing House Restaurant – A Taste of Northern China in Campbell River

I have to say, at first I cringed at the thought of having Chinese food in Campbell River. My previous experiences with small town Chinese food had been terrible. Short of making a sweet and sour pork burger, many of these places have bastardized Chinese food to a point where you can’t even recognize them anymore. With subtle signage and a name far from Golden Dragon Happy Panda Wok, Beijing House gave me a sliver of hope, that a Chinese restaurant in a small town may have redeeming qualities. Will my hopes and dreams be fulfilled? Or will my heart get broken once again? You’ll have to read on to find out.

Video: Interview with Chef Bruce Bromberg

As mentioned in my last post, at the Blue Ribbon Classics Menu launch event we had the opportunity to interview Chef Bruce Bromberg of Blue Ribbon Restaurants. It was a pleasure to spend about 10 minutes with Bruce, and talk about this partnership with Renaissance Hotels, his food inspirations, etc. Instead of typing up a transcript, why not taking some videos and post them here?! So, here it is everyone, interview with Chef Bruce Bromberg.

Blue Ribbon Classics Menu at p2b Bistro and Bar

We went to a launch event to celebrate the addition of the "Blue Ribbon Classics" menu to the p2b Bistro and Bar at the Renaissance Vancouver Harbourside. The "Blue Ribbon Classics" menu is a collection of signature dishes by Eric and Bruce Bromberg, chefs and founders of the famous Blue Ribbon Restaurants. All in all, I think this is a great selection for happy hour or appetizers at an evening gathering. The venue, p2b Bistro, is gorgeous with floor to ceiling windows and a Coal Harbour view. It's like a patio seating without having to go outside.
