2014 Healthy Chef Competition Recap

For the past 4 years, I have been blessed with the opportunity to attend the BC Healthy Chef Competition. Co-sponsored by the BC Chefs' Association and the BC Produce Marketing Association, the purpose of this event is to promote healthy eating while raising money for the Mix it Up! campaign, Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Chefs representing 8 units were competing against each other by cooking up some tasty entrees and desserts using fruit and vegetables. Despite I received a media invitation this year, I once again joined a few other colleagues at work at this event.

[Craft Beer] Recipe: Pancakes with Beer

Those who follow me on Twitter may have noticed me dipping my toes into the Cooking With Beer arena. Today I’m here to tell you some of the results. I decided to start with something easy - Pancakes! I have a base recipe that I’ve been making for years so I know exactly what to expect from it.

Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria – Commercial Drive

Remember going to Famoso for the event featuring world acclaimed pizza chef Roberto Caporuscio from New York City and truly enjoyed the pizzas, I purchased a deal voucher to re-visit Famoso. I wanted to see if their pizzas taste just as good without the live guidance of chef Caporuscio. I wanted to do it now also because of our recent trip to Naples, where we had the authentic Neapolitan pizzas from L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele, a local pizzeria that has been around since 1870.

Celebrate #BCVeggieDay on March 20

March 20 will be declared BC Veggie Day in a special proclamation to celebrate the annual springtime arrival of locally greenhouse grown vegetables from BC’s 42 greenhouse growers located throughout the Lower Mainland. There will be a celebration party at the Vancouver Art Gallery from 11am to 2pm on that day.

[Wines] Mediterranean Mingle: Food Paired with Wines from South of France

The second event of the Vancouver International Wine Festival that we went to was the Mediterranean Mingle. It's a grazing lunch. There were a number of Mediterranean-inspired dishes being put out, with suggested wine pairings. They suggested some classic pairings, but also "out of the box" pairings. Keeping up with the French theme, the focus was on wines from South of France.
