A Taste of Aboriginal Food Culture
As part of the Olympic festivities, I was also invited to the Aboriginal Food Showcase at the Pan Pacific. It was the opening night of the Kla-howya exhibit at the hotel. This was my first encounter with Aboriginal food culture, so I had no idea what to expect. And because there really wasn't any benchmark to measure against, instead of reviewing the food, I will keep it short, making this more of a photo blog and let you take a glimpse of what I ate.
BC Showcase – Taste of Vancouver Island and Sunshine Coast
With the Olympics backdrop, many events are held in Vancouver to take advantage of that. Joyce and I had the pleasure to go to an event meant to showcase the food and wines from Vancouver Island and Sunshine Coast. The event was by invitations only. Having the privilege to receive the invitations (as media) was a compliment to the website as well as to anyone who follows us.
Whole Foods Market Breaks Cheese to Break Guinness Record
On Feb 27 at 12pm PST, Whole Foods Markets across Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. will simultaneously break into hundreds of wheels of 24-month-aged Parmigiano Reggiano, in an attempt tobreak its own Guinness World Record set in 2008 . Using traditional tools from Italy’s Consorzio del Formaggio Parmigiano Reggiano, cheese mongers will carve and portion each 85-pound wheel in approximately half an hour.
Yew Restaurant + Bar feat. Olympics Menu
During the month of January, Yew Restaurant + Bar ran its 3-course No Passport Required Menu for $35 per person, featuring ingredients/food culture from the 3 Canadian Olympic cities: Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver. I was intrigued by the offering, so Mr. and I went there on a weekday evening.
