Late August, my friend and I ventured to the East Coast of the US to New York City. Hot, humid, polluted air smacked my face as soon as we neared Manhattan. For 10 days, we traveled from place to place by foot or subway, shopping and eating wherever and whenever.
Cambie Vietnamese Restaurant
Located on Main and King Edward, but originally from a location on Cambie St. (which explains the name), Cambie Vietnamese Restaurant offers a wide menu selection that expands far beyond the typical varieties of pho. The dining space is fairly large with a number of tables and booths, and those who know me know how much I love booths. The inside is recently renovated, looking clean and fresh.
Prestons – A Taste of the Fall Menu
Joyce and I attended the media launch event at Prestons for its fall menu -- my first food blogger-type event. Socializing and Lisa equals: out of comfort zone plus awkward, which also equals to complete social misfit. Nevertheless, still had a good time, met some really cool people, some really flamboyant people, and a couple of drinks.
Long’s Noodle House
I don't often blog about Chinese food because my mom makes great Canton-style dishes (think stir-frys). However we do appreciate other Chinese cuisines and sometimes go out and about for great finds. Shanghainese is one of our favourites, and here's one that we always go for our Shanghainese food fix - Long's Noodle House. The restaurant doesn't look all that fancy on the outside, but don't let that fool you. It serves some really great food.
Suika Snackbar
Van Eats Media invited us to try out Suika Snackbar's special package called Suika Me Silly. What a silly name. I was a bit hesitant, but when I checked out the photo gallery on Facebook, I was intrigued. Suika Snackbar is a sister restaurant of Kingyo Izakaya on Denman Street. Suika is also an izakaya restaurant serving tapa size dishes. The package we tried is a sampling menu featuring 6 dishes, some are on its regular menu, some are not. This package is available at a limited quantity for $16 in the month of October.
