Despite the expected, typical hits & misses during Dine Out, I tend to use this period to try out new restaurants and assess the potential return in the future. If a restaurant could impress me during this time, it would probably be even better when visiting post Dine-Out. This year I continue this tradition, and first up, Black + Blue, the latest addition to the Glowbal Restaurant Group empire. Frankly I didn't know what to expect from this restaurant because I've heard mixed reviews about it, in fact mostly negative both from regular diners online and my coworkers. Keeping an open mind, I gave it a try.
Dine Out Vancouver Returns & Past Dine Out Reviews
Dine Out Vancouver 2012 is set for Jan 20-Feb 5, 2012 and is now open for reservations. In its 10th year, 230 restaurants are participating in this event, offering prix fixe menus at $18, $28 or $38. I thought I'd round up some past Dine Out experience that we have had in recent years (2009-2011), good and bad. Maybe this will help your research as you try to determine which ones to try.

Fairmont Hotels’ Culinary Apprentice Dinner
Through work I was among one of the lucky ~300 guests who attended the Fairmont Apprentice Dinner. This is a culinary debut of cook apprentices from seven Fairmont properties: Waterfront, Pacific Rim, Hotel Vancouver, Vancouver Airport, Chateau Whistler, Empress in Victoria and Olympic in Seattle. Emceed by Coleen Christie of CTV, it's a six-course dinner with wine pairing.
Blue Ribbon Classics Menu at p2b Bistro and Bar
We went to a launch event to celebrate the addition of the "Blue Ribbon Classics" menu to the p2b Bistro and Bar at the Renaissance Vancouver Harbourside. The "Blue Ribbon Classics" menu is a collection of signature dishes by Eric and Bruce Bromberg, chefs and founders of the famous Blue Ribbon Restaurants. All in all, I think this is a great selection for happy hour or appetizers at an evening gathering. The venue, p2b Bistro, is gorgeous with floor to ceiling windows and a Coal Harbour view. It's like a patio seating without having to go outside.
