West Oak recently celebrated its 5th anniversary in the Yaletown neighbourhood. As a follow-up, Areta, Alice and I were invited to a hosted dinner at the restaurant. We tried some new cocktails, a couple of appetizers, three entrees and a couple of side dishes, and shared a dessert.
To celebrate my parents' wedding anniversary, we went to Honey Salt at the Parq Vancouver for dinner. Since its opening, I've been seeing photos on Instagram and I've been curious about it. Finally our turn to check it out.
When I say "hotel breakfast", what comes to mind? I would think of a la carte standard affairs, or varied quality of "continental breakfast" from 2-3 star hotels. We are lucky in Vancouver in a sense that there are many hotels offering delicious, not your typical breakfast/brunch options, e.g. Tableau, Mosaic, Yew, Blvd. Enter the new player, H2 Rotisserie & Bar at Westin Bayshore, which offers a weekend brunch buffet.
We took a trip to Vancouver Island. It was a pretty epic trip -- travelled from Nanaimo to Port Hardy and San Josef Bay in the northwest corner, and everywhere in between -- 2,300km in 9 days. First stop, Nanaimo. It was brunch time when we arrived in Nanaimo. Downtown Nanaimo has no shortage of brunch options, and Gabriel's Cafe caught my eyes.
Since the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver renovated the ground floor restaurant space, naming it Notch8 Restaurant, I've been wanting to eat there. So I made a reservation there for Dine Out. Priced at $40, Notch8's menu was intriguing and interesting. The menu has items or ingredient combinations that you don't often see on a Dine Out menu, or they have some unique way of preparing the usual ingredients, so I was quite excited going into it.
