Arts Club’s Celebrity Chef Cooking Classes ft. Chef Ned Bell

Mr. and I received an invitation to attend one of the Arts Club Theatre's Celebrity Chef Cooking Classes, and it turned out to be one featuring Chef Ned Bell. Chef Bell is the Head Chef of the new Rosewood Hotel Georgia, which is due to open in June. We had a wonderful meal specially prepared by one of the celebrity chefs in town, enjoyed the interaction with Chef Bell and watching him demonstrate throughout the evening.

Mr. and I were invited to an event to try a new line of wine by Australia's [yellow tail]. It's called Lucky Penny and it comes in one white blend and one red blend. Apparently BC is the first place in the world to be selling it. Held at Les Amis du Fromage, we joined... Continue Reading →

Chocolate Festival 2010 – Chocolate, Wine and More Chocolate

After attending the Great Wine & Chocolate Dessert Challenge two weeks ago, we received invitations to two more Chocolate Festival 2010 events. Mr. and I attended both events this weekend, making it a chocolate trilogy. And here is Part 2 and Part 3 of the Chocolate Festival Saga. We'd like to thank Dawn Donahue, Festival Director, for inviting us to the events. And a big congratulations to all festival staff and volunteers for putting on such a great series of chocolate filled events this year.

Chocolate Festival 2010 – The Great Wine & Dessert Challenge

Thanks to Vancouver Foodster, I scored two free tickets to attend a Chocolate Festival event - The Great Wine & Dessert Challenge. It took place last Sunday night at Place des Arts in Coquitlam. At the event we got to taste 5 dessert wines, paired with 5 chocolate-inspired desserts by Gourmet Baker. John Gerum from West Coast Wine Education led the event by explaining the dessert wine production and how to pair chocolate with wine & liquer.

[Wines] Tasting the Wines of Australia – Part 2

During my last post, I discussed the delicious food and wine pairings at this event; but there was much much more -- over 70 types of wine was presented for tasting, and I did what I can to try them all. Here's a list of my favourites. I’d like to make it clear that I’m by no means a wine connoisseur. This is a new found appreciation, so if you are a seasoned wine drinker, you should take what I have to say with a grain of salt. However, if you are a beginner yourself, you’ll likely find my opinions useful.
