I’m sure you will all agree that it’s not Christmas without some chocolate. Right? Imagine being served some unique, tasty chocolates at the next party, or unwrapping a beautiful chocolate art piece under the tree…are you still shopping for some great chocolates? Here are some suggestions from me:

Chez Christophe Chocolaterie and Patisserie

I still remembered the first time I knew about Christophe was at the CONNECT Show 2013 and he was on stage doing a live demo. It was quite fascinating to watch pieces of different size and shape being created and put together. Ever since then, Christophe has received a number of awards, including most recently taking Gold at the 2014 International Chocolate Awards World Final in the White Chocolate Ganaches and Truffles category. And his shop has appeared on many media and bloggers’ list. Now he’s on mine!

Putting together the showpiece

Last Christmas, I visited Chez Christophe’s patisserie in Burnaby and saw this display of how the showpiece came together.

We were invited to the ChefmeetsBCGrape event back in June. Co-produced with the Wines of British Columbia, it’s a wine and food fundraiser for the Arts Club Theatre, celebrating the finest offerings of wine and food from across BC. I had a backlog of photos and posts to go through, and finally here I am to show you some mouth-watering photos from the event. Better late than never, right?

It was a sold out event with more than 500 wine lovers. Each of us went from station to station to taste dishes put on by 15 local restaurants, and sample wines from close to 100 BC wineries. You know there would be no shortage of good food and good wines.

Each of us was given an event guide, with a slot for the wine glass. What a great idea to free up our hands from juggling plates and glasses!

Thanks to Vancouver Foodster, Mr. and I won a contest prize to attend a chocolate workshop at BETA5 Chocolates on Valentine’s Day. What a perfect way to spend our evening on this special day!

Beta5 Chocolates was just open recently in October 2011. It’s located in the industrial area near the Main Street skytrain station. The event started at 8:30pm and we arrived just after 8pm. We were greeted by Jess the co-owner and she graciously offered us champagne and a variety of chocolate-coated goodies, including pretzels, hazelnuts, ginger and espresso beans, as well as interesting items like chocolate covered frozen dried strawberries and mango-passion fruit caramels.

The workshop finally began when all 6 couples arrived. We first got to try chocolate chips from different countries, getting a sense of how the chocolate beans taste different based on their country of origin, climate, soil condition, etc. Some were bitter, some were a bit sour.

Then, time to make our own box of chocolate. (more…)
