West Oak recently celebrated its 5th anniversary in the Yaletown neighbourhood. As a follow-up, Areta, Alice and I were invited to a hosted dinner at the restaurant. We tried some new cocktails, a couple of appetizers, three entrees and a couple of side dishes, and shared a dessert.
[Christmas on VanFoodies] Baking Cookies with Sesame Seeds
For the last few years, my office has organized a Christmas baking exchange, where we trade our baked goods with each other so we all end up with a variety of treats for the holiday. Last year, I made these sesame cookies; they were delicious and I love the Asian touch to it! We heard of the recipe on the radio and made some changes after we did a couple runs. Are you still doing some more holiday baking? Here is our recipe for you:
Nestle Toll House Cafe
I didn’t grow up with a lot of baked goods. It wasn’t really a part of my culture. Not surprisingly, it wasn’t long until I started to take a liking to them. After all, who can say no to a soft, moist, and buttery cookie? Well I certainly couldn’t. This is the only Nestle Toll House store in BC, and in Canada for that matter (strange choice, because you would assume most chains would open their flagship store in Vancouver or Toronto). Like a bakery, all the sweets are displayed at the front of the shop. There are various types of desserts, with the majority being cookies. They also have smoothies and Nescafe products.
[Recipe] Sugar Cookies With a Twist (or Two)
Here is the sugar cookie recipe that we used to bake our new header in celebration of our second anniversary. It's a very simple recipe, but we have a few twists at the end of this post that will turn this into a great Christmas baking addition.
