Crepes, who doesn’t love them?

You can find them anywhere, fill them with anything — it’s like a hand held piece of delicious treasure on the go. Fill it with whipped cream, fruit, and ice cream. Sprinkle it with a little cinnamon and sugar. Stuff it with tuna salad and lettuce.

Anyways, there are a lot of places where you can get them; but in the downtown area, a lot of people flock to Cafe Crepe because of their convenient locations. But, if you want a really delicious dessert crepe, I suggest that you try La Bretagne Creperie.

It is further along Robson than Cafe Crepe, but well worth the walk. I’ve been here a handful of times already, the first time being a few years back when the joint was more popular. The last two visits were within a one month time frame and the place has definitely slowed down. It might just be because of the holidays and/or the location.

The place is in dire need of a renovation. The seats, cutlery, decor, everything looks very dated…and not that nice antique kind of way. Strange orange walls, flat screen in the corner, booth seatings – they don’t add up to a classy or contemporary space. I heard that the place switched owners since the last time I was here and you can definitely feel it. The vibe was quite different since my first visit.

I have had several of their crepes already, but mostly sweet (although I’m a savoury kind of gal). The day I decided to actually photograph, we tried two savoury and two sweet – that’s right, four crepes, two people. (more…)

You all probably don’t know, but I actually live in the Tri-cities area. A girl in the suburb who dreams about living a life in the urban centre. haha. My posts usually focus on Vancouver but from time to time I might discover gems in my ‘hood. So the other day, Mr. and I checked out Crepe Delicious at Coquitlam Centre. I’ve walked by the store numerous times, but apparently they’ve been around for almost 2 years. No idea why it took me this long to give them a try!

Food

The concept is pretty simple: crepes, savoury and sweet crepes. They also serve panini sandwiches but that only takes up a tiny corner of its menu.

We tried two savoury crepes and one sweet crepe. First up, the Garden Ham. It was pretty interesting because we saw how the staff cracked the egg on the crepe, so as she folded it, the cooked egg would be sandwiched between the crepe layers.

Frankly neither of the savoury crepes looks interesting on the outside, so let’s hope the filling tastes good.

It was not bad, but to me, I found it rather light. (more…)

When my girlfriends and I were planning the Vegas trip, all I requested was “can we visit that dessert place at Aria?” Sure enough, my wish was granted. I made sure it was in the itinerary that we check out one of the Jean Philippe Patisseries – Aria or Bellagio. One of my girlfriends and I went to the one at Aria. [Warning: Mouth-watering pictures in effect]

The Store

Oh my god. It was like heaven when we got to the store.

Vibrant displays

There is a retail section for packaged candies, and a cafe section where you could sit down and eat. I just couldn’t take my eyes off everything.

At least we knew we were there for cakes/desserts, so that eliminated the entire baked goods/deli section – which, looked very attractive as well.

Overall, I’m very impressed by the presentation of the food. It just makes you drool as you stare at them. Check out that smoked salmon salad sphere in the picture below. Isn’t that beautiful?

As for the cake/dessert display, gee there were a good 25 or so options to choose from. It was a tough decision because they all looked so yummy.

At the end, between the two of us, we ordered three things to share. And yes, we skipped lunch for this.

To start, we ordered a Sweet Trio to whet our appetite, which were three cute, petite-size desserts that were “plated” on a solid piece of milk chocolate. (more…)

For 3 weeks, I disappeared from Vancouver to go travel a little in Europe. We went from country to country, then flew back home.

This isn’t a review for particular restaurants, just some of the foods I took photos of.

In no particular order, we stopped in Copenhagen, Denmark. Or in their spelling, it’s something like Kobenhaven or something. It was a really long day, which included a ride through the canal area. While the others were shopping on Stroget Road, I sat down and enjoyed my chicken crepe which was surprisingly good.

Hunger... must stop for crepe! Why a crepe? 'Cause it was there. Don't worry, I bought some butter cookies of course!

In France, we had lunch on a boat going down the Seine River which went through a part of Paris. It was super warm in there, as it was sunny and the entire boat was covered in glass. The food was just alright, probably because it was so busy, but I enjoyed the wine… too much. I love my chardonnay though.

This was the boat we were on for lunch, went down the Seine River.

Wine tasting? Oh sure, I'll just have a sip..

And of course, I had to try a crepe. (more…)
