I can’t believe we are just under 7 weeks away from Christmas! In fact, my work Christmas party is exactly 29 days away – that’s less than a month!! If you haven’t started panicking about holiday gifting, you probably should. I know I am now.

Here are some ideas to get you started. I was invited to a preview of Superstore’s holiday collections and after confirming with the agency, I can tell you that the new products should be in store now (I was told 2nd week of November). Let me share some of my favorites with you.

2017 Holiday Home Collection, Real Canadian Superstore

The Midnight Wish collection was definitely my favourite of them all. It is inspired by the starry sky on Christmas Eve and highlights the navy and gold trend. I was sold as soon as I saw the constellation line up!

Adding to my shopping list include the Dutch Oven, Galactic Water Bottle (or I call it the constellation bottle), Zodiac Mug (I’m a Sagittarius, by the way!).

The Winter Green was also quite nice.

Traditionally, Valentine’s Day is celebrated with the gifting of cards, flowers and chocolates. This year’s Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Are you still looking for gift ideas? You don’t have to break the bank to impress your valentine – check out the following chocolatiers and patisseries. They offer some beautifully crafted, delicious treats that I would be excited to receive this Valentine’s Day:

Bon Macaron Patisserie

Their 2016 Valentine’s Collection consists of 5 specialty flavours with unique designs. They are available in a beautiful gift box that fits not only all five specialty macarons, but also two extra macarons in your choice of flavours.

The five specialty macarons are:

  • Cinnamon Heart – A white macaron decorated with tiny candy hearts.
  • Kir Royal – A deep pink macaron flecked with gold.
  • Mon Cheri (Chocolate and Cherry) – An adorable macaron based on the “heart eyes” emoji.
  • Rose – A bright red macaron sculpted to look like a rose.
  • Passion Fruit – Mini-macarons in the shape of hearts, X’s and O’s

On a regular basis, Bon Macaron produces some really interesting flavours, including Curry Mango Chutney, Goat Cheese & Fig, and White Truffle & Sea Salt. I’ve tried these flavours and thought they were quite spot on. Depending on your taste buds, you may taste the sweet first, or if you’re like me, I tasted the savoury flavours first. Either way, they were interesting, intriguing, and inspiring.

Here is the sugar cookie recipe that we used to bake our new header in celebration of our second anniversary. It’s a very simple recipe, but we have a few twists at the end of this post that will turn this into a great Christmas baking addition.

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1-1/4 cups unsalted butter, at room temperature

Preparation

  1. Mix flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl
  2. In another large bowl, beat butter with sugar for around 2 minutes until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, then beat in vanilla extract.

  4. If the dough is too sticky to form into a ball, stir in extra flour. Add 2 tablespoons at a time until dough is no longer sticky and you can roll it into a ball. It should take at most another 1/2 cup flour.
