Summer is just around the corner and that means it’s the season for iced tea! How do you usually enjoy yours? Pure Leaf Canada sent us a few bottles of their unsweetened iced tea, and we came up with a few recipes for your everyday occasions.

Pure Leaf Canada Iced Tea

The unsweetened tea has 0 sugar, 0 artificial sweeteners and 0 calories, so it is the perfect base to add your own ingredients and make your own iced tea creations.

Sunday Brunch

A fruity iced tea is perfect for any brunch dishes. Mr. and I love having waffles for brunch. Now that mangoes are in season, we made some waffles and topped them with super sweet Ataulfo mango and maple syrup. To go with it, we made some strawberry & mango iced tea with the unsweetened lemon tea.

Recipe (4 servings)

  • 1 Ripe Ataulfo Mango, Diced
  • 1/2 lb Strawberries, Fresh or Frozen
  • 1L Pure Leaf Unsweetened Lemon Iced Tea
  • 4 Teaspoons of Maple Syrup (optional, to taste)

You can prepare this ahead of time, to allow the fruit to be infused into the tea. We actually froze the strawberries so they served as ice as well! When you drink the tea, muddle the fruit a bit to allow the flavours come through even more. Add some mint for some freshness and colour.

A spa date brought CC and me to Davie Street. For dinner we decided to be spontaneous and picked whatever that caught our eyes. We ended up at the door of Thai Basil on Thurlow.

Food

We started with a Thai Iced Tea each. It has the essence of the HK style milk tea but sweeter due to the use of condensed milk. It was quite good, had a good blend of tea flavours, thirst-quenching and surprisingly refreshing. But I felt like my blood sugar level went up just by drinking this.

Then we shared two entrees. The Tom Yum Noodle Soup builds on the classic Tom Yum soup base, but not as sour and spicy as I have had at other Thai restaurants. It used the same type of rice noodle as Pad Thai, so the texture remained al dente and not mushy. It was a big bowl of noodles, with a decent serving of shrimps. (more…)

We were given a box of Davids Tea’s “The Summer Collection” to try. I’m a coffee drinker, but I do enjoy a nice cup of tea from time to time (especially going for afternoon tea for some girly time). I was quite excited to try this collection of 5 tea flavours, because it uses a lot of tropical fruit flavours, which I like.

This box set has 5 tea flavours, each packet contains 25g of tea. The packets don’t seem like much but it could each make several 16oz tumblers of tea, and I’d put in a bit more than the recommended amount. Here are the flavours:

Mango Fruit Punch – Fruit flavoured tea (no caffeine). It has a strong pineapple and mango note. A very fruity drink; a bit sweet.
