Last fall, I was invited to a fun dinner at Tasty Indian Bistro where I was picked up in downtown Vancouver by the Vancouver Trolley Company then taken to the North Delta restaurant. While the food was great, it’s always hard to evaluate a restaurant based on the food they serve at an event. The Vegetable Pakora was very good. It was crispy outside, but light and pillowy inside. You could see and taste the pieces of vegetables in the batter. I believe in “less is more” when it comes to menu planning, that excelling in a small menu is much better than doing mediocre in a large menu. Therefore, I was pleased to see a focused menu – just 4 items. Each customer also receives a sample of Mango Lassi for free. It’s really good but would be even better if properly chilled. Couldn’t tell whether you could actually order a full size drink or not.

Of the three meat options, I chose Tandoori Chicken, given that they claim to serve “Traditional UK Tandoori” – it must be their specialty item. The skewers of tandoori chicken does look pretty good on the back of the truck.

It does take a few minutes for the food, but I know it’s freshly made. (more…)
