Fairmont Hotels’ Culinary Apprentice Dinner

Through work I was among one of the lucky ~300 guests who attended the Fairmont Apprentice Dinner. This is a culinary debut of cook apprentices from seven Fairmont properties: Waterfront, Pacific Rim, Hotel Vancouver, Vancouver Airport, Chateau Whistler, Empress in Victoria and Olympic in Seattle. Emceed by Coleen Christie of CTV, it's a six-course dinner with wine pairing.

Coconut Kenny’s: I can still hear the coconuts knocking together

Pizza, the bread and butter of the 20-something age group, is a simple yet magical food. Everything from the sticky cheese to the crispy (as it should be) crust spells deliciousness. It’s pretty amazing that for something so easy to make, so many people screw it up so badly. There’s something to be said about finding a decent pizzeria. And I think I’ve just added another one to the good list.

Australia Travels – Din Tai Fung and Golden Century Seafood Restaurant

You're wondering, why am I reviewing two Chinese restaurants when I travelled so far? Frankly, because these two stood out for me...and I may have forgotten to take pictures while I was travelling. You can falcon punch me if you ever meet me. I spent two weeks in Australia, going from Sydney, to Melbourne, to Gold Coast, and back to Sydney again.

Event: Arts Club’s Fall 2011 Celebrity Chef Cooking Classes

The Arts Club Theatre Company just announced the lineup of its Fall 2011 Celebrity Chef Cooking Classes series. In May, Mr. and I were invited to one of the Spring classes and it was a ton of fun. We truly enjoyed Chef Ned Bell's food and the warm hospitality of our host Leah.

Les Faux Bourgeois

So I've heard about this bustling French bistro in East Vancouver for awhile now, and it seems to be on everyone's list of favourite French restaurants. Les Faux Bourgeois -- A Fake Middle Class. What an interesting choice of name. After taking a look at the seemingly reasonable menu (all entrees are under $20), we decided to plan a double date and check this place out.
