Another restaurant that we previewed for Dine Out was Dockside Restaurant. They are also offering a $35 menu. Similar to the Sandbar tasting, we had the full portion for photos and small bite size for tasting. But luckily for us, here we got to try everything on the menu.

Food

Dockside’s menu offers 3 appetizer options, 4 entrees, and 2 desserts. Here they are:

Cucumber Caprese – This didn’t seem like much, but it’s refreshing and light. I really like the mint on top. Simple 3 bites to start the meal.

Beef Empanadas – This had good flavour. The crust wasn’t too thick and there was decent amount of filling.

Have you checked out the Dine Out Vancouver website yet? Are you doing any prix fixe dinner? I was invited to a tour on the Granville Island to visit some restaurants for their menu preview. First up, Dockside Restaurant at the Granville Island Hotel.

Dockside has been around for a long time. I remember going there for the first time for Dine Out back in 2008, then Christmas brunch with family in 2013, my bridal shower in 2015, then here we are again for Dine Out. Food quality was always solid and we always had a good time.

Food

There are three options for appetizer. First, the Winter Green Salad was so pleasing on the eyes. It’s colourful, with a good variety of vegetables. I like that it uses polenta as croutons; not only does it give a crispy texture, but also creamy, cheesy flavours.

My friend JX loves her crab cakes, and I think she’ll enjoy these Dockside Crab and Shrimp Cakes. Perfect two-bite size, crispy on the outside and meaty inside. Not much filler there. The sweetness of mango salsa and creamy aioli balanced it really nicely.

My favourite appetizer was the Duck Prosciutto Tart. (more…)

It has become a family tradition to go out for a Christmas Day buffet brunch every year. We want to try different restaurants so for the past few years we have visited EBO, Herons and Mosaic. This year, we chose Dockside Restaurant at the Granville Island Hotel; its long menu caught our attention.

The main buffet

Food

Overall food quality was great and there was plenty to choose from. Here is a laundry list of menu items:

Prawns, Wild Snow Crab Claws & Cold Water Shrimp, Albacore Tuna Tataki with Daikon and Ponzu, House Cured Sockeye Gravlax, Poached Oceanwise Steelhead, House Beet Pickled Herring, Spicy Avocado Crab Devilled Eggs, Smoked Kippers, Cedar Jellied Indian Candy, Smoked Trout

Cold seafoodVarieties of salmon preparations

This was probably my favourite station. I really enjoyed the house cured salmon, tuna tataki, prawns, and snow crab claws. Even though they were chilled and marinated, they weren’t over-dressed to compensate for the what-could-be loss of flavours during the chilling process.

Local and International Cheese Display with House Compotes and Berries, Local and International Charcuterie with House Pickles and Mustards, Crostini, Lavache, Cracker Bread, Rainforest Crisps

Charcuterie

Grilled Mediterranean Platter, Dockside Caesar Salad, Arugula & Grilled Pear Salad, Cobb Square Salad, Chili Malay Noodle Salad, Red Rice Quinoa & Ginger Salad

Salads

Smoked Bacon & Canadian Bacon, Chicken Apple Sausage & Bangers, Roasted Turkey Breast & Leg with Herbed Pan Gravy, Slow Roasted Prime Rib, Brown Sugar Sea Salt Crusted Double Smoked Ham, BBQ Pork & BBQ Duck

Carving station

The prime rib roast was excellent! (more…)
