For the Canada Day long weekend, Mr. and I went to the Okanagan with Bryan and Kathryn. Last year, we received a certificate for a two-night stay at The Villa at Hester Creek Estate Winery, so we took the opportunity to spoil ourselves on this getaway.

During our stay, Mr. and I also had dinner at the Terrafina Restaurant at Hester Creek.

To start, we shared the Wagyu Beef Carpaccio. There was so much on the plate you can barely see the thinly sliced wagyu beef. The flavour combination was quite typical — capers, parmesan, arugula, aioli — what came as a pleasant surprise was the little sprouts sprinkled on top. They gave a slight crunch, an earthy note, which brought a new dimension of flavour.

Do you remember the hotel called Cascadia that’s near the corner of Hornby/Davie? It’s Cascadia no more because its parent company, Silver Birch, has transformed it into an all-suite hotel. What does it mean? It means every room in this hotel is now equipped with a fully-equipped kitchen.

I had the privilege to check out the Residence Inn by Marriott last week, at its grand opening event. We were treated to food prepared by Cavino (Coffee by Day – Wine by Night), the hotel restaurant, and the Fish House, the sister property also owned by Silver Birch.

Overview

After climbing out of my big comfy bed at the Fairmont Pacific Rim, and getting a splash of sun from the floor to ceiling windows, it was time for breakfast.

Ahhh… breakfast in bed… what a wonderful concept. People would tell you the bed should be for sleep and sex only, but I’d disagree. A bed’s comfort level is at its highest in the morning. Trust me, I’ve spent many days sleeping in to research this thoroughly. It’s full of warmth and softness. And to have someone make and deliver breakfast for me to eat in bed, it made me feel all fluffy inside.

I’m actually not a breakfast guy, but I do love breakfast. How does that work you ask? I don’t usually eat in the morning, but I do like what goes in a breakfast. All that fat, protein, and carbs, it’s a TRI-WINNING combination. (more…)
