Do you remember the hotel called Cascadia that’s near the corner of Hornby/Davie? It’s Cascadia no more because its parent company, Silver Birch, has transformed it into an all-suite hotel. What does it mean? It means every room in this hotel is now equipped with a fully-equipped kitchen.
I had the privilege to check out the Residence Inn by Marriott last week, at its grand opening event. We were treated to food prepared by Cavino (Coffee by Day – Wine by Night), the hotel restaurant, and the Fish House, the sister property also owned by Silver Birch.
Of course, we had the opportunity to check out the rooms. The kitchen is like your home kitchen, with a range, dishwasher, full-size fridge and microwave. Apparently, the hotel also provides grocery-shopping service, like room-service delivery but fresh grocery. That’s really cool!
The rooms are also nicely decorated with an option of either queen or king-size bed. They look very modern now.
And the view! It’s gorgeous. The three rooms that we saw have a view of downtown Vancouver and south Granville. We even caught a glimpse of the water and the sunset.
At the event, we played the door hanger game. Each guest was invited to pick a door hanger from the display for a chance to win restaurant certificates, a free night stay at the hotel, or donations to a charity. Happy to report that I helped raise funds for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation; sad to report that I witnessed someone else win the free night stay.
This hotel is definitely meant for an extended-stay, not the in-and-out type of visitors, and helping them make Vancouver a home away from home. One of a kind in downtown Vancouver.
