The 4th Annual Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival has been running for the past few weeks now. I don’t tend to participate in this very much because the hot chocolates are usually on the pricey side and most of the stores are not conveniently located for me.

That being said, there are a few that are close to my office. It has been quite chilly recently so I thought it was a perfect excuse for a team outing at one of the locations – Leonidas at the Convention Centre. Last time I visited I was only there for the macarons so I was quite excited about trying their hot chocolate.

And they actually serve 6 different types of hot chocolate (2 dark, 2 milk and 2 white), which I really appreciate, offering some kind of hot chocolate for everyone. Each hot chocolate comes with your choice of Liege Belgian Waffle, cheesecake trio, one macaron, two pieces of chocolate, or ice cream.

Food

I ordered the Boho Secret with the Liege Waffle. It’s a 72% dark Belgian chocolate flavoured with peppermint, turmeric, honey and pepper. Their hot chocolates are made with real chocolate chips and not syrup or powder, which makes each cup rich and decadent. (more…)

To celebrate Macaron Day and to support local pastry shops’ effort to raise money for charities, I dropped by Leonidas for some macarons. On that day, macarons were at 25% off, i.e. $1.50 each instead of its regular price at $2. Too good of an offer to pass up.

Leonidas is located on the outside of the West Wing of the Vancouver Convention Centre, with a view of the water and Canada Place. I can just imagine grabbing some chocolates and a coffee and sit outside on a nice, warm summer day, while enjoying the gorgeous waterfront view.

Before I start, let me just throw it out there that I’m not a macaron expert. In fact, I didn’t know much about macarons until they became the new cupcakes – thanks to the ever-changing food trend. So this is simply written based on my personal preference. Well I guess this principle applies to just any post on this site, but more so on this topic since admittedly I don’t have much experience eating macarons.

Food

When I got there, what caught my eyes was definitely the macaron showcase. Macarons are way more colourful than chocolate bonbons.

Then, after finding out every flavour that was available, I ordered myself 6 different flavours of macarons. All nicely, carefully packed in a little plastic bag. Macarons are very delicate, so really, you have to handle them with care. (more…)
