Beer & Pizza at Field House Brewing, Abbotsford

On one of Papa Lam’s days off, we took the family out to the Fraser Valley for a day of fun. One of the stops was Field House Brewing. We’ve had Field House’s beers a number of times now, and it’s often a booth we’d stop by at any beer festival, but this was our first time visiting the East Abbotsford brewery on location.

Field House has a covered patio and beer lawn where they serve up their tasty brews and food featuring local ingredients and produce from their own Field House Farm. You can book a table online for the covered patio, but the beer lawn is on a first-come, first-served basis. It’s a nice day out so we took a risk for a spot on the beer lawn. It was a non-holiday Monday but it’s still busy. Luckily for us, we managed to grab the last table available and we settled down for lunch.

[Travel] Self-Guided Walking Tour of Seattle’s Ballard Brewery District

Mr. and I had a few days off in April, so we decided to head down to Seattle for a quick getaway. It’s been a couple of years now since we last headed south of the border thanks to the weak Canadian Dollar.

Instead of hanging out in the downtown area, we chose to stay in the Ballard district, which is known for its ever growing share of breweries. Where we stayed was within walking distance to a cluster of craft breweries, so we did a self-guided brewery tour.

And that means we just hit the street and started walking towards the first stop from our temporary home. When I was looking up the breweries, Lucky Envelope caught my eyes because its logo is the red envelope 利是 we hand out during Chinese New Year and to no surprise, looks like it’s Asian owned. LE it is.

Lucky for us, it was the release day of their sours. And we are big sour fans!! There were 6 on the menu, so we opted for the lighter ones (it’s only our first stop!) plus a couple of other brews:

Raspberry Sour
Mango Sour
Lychee Sour
Blackberry Shake Sour
Beardless Brewer Red Ale
Error 404: El Dorado Haze IPA

Four Winds Brewing – Phaedra

So far, I haven’t had a Four Winds beer that I didn’t like, and I’m happy to see that tradition continue. This Rye Wheat IPA didn’t blow my mind like the Juxtapose Brett IPA did, but it certainly didn’t disappoint either. Definitely worth drinking.

Mill Street Brewery – Vanilla Porter

Last time I was in Kitchener, I had a flight of Mill Street beers. I didn’t like a single one. I couldn’t even finish the paddle. So I approached this booth with a bit of trepidation. Fortunately it was totally unfounded because their Vanilla Porter is actually really good! Absolutely worth a try.

Parallel 49 – Tricycle Grapefruit Radler

This is the kind of beer that really benefits from a hot, cloudless day. Here I was, sweating away, skin doing its best “cooked lobster” impression, when bam – a fist called refreshing hit me in the face. It’s hard to say how much, if at all, I would like this on a cool, winter night, but when I drank this with the sun beating down on me, it tasted great.
