And the draw is: Red Racer Fly By Night Porter
Here we are! The final beer of the box, a Porter from Central City. Not their well-known bourbon barrel imperial porter though, a new and different one. So how does it stack up? Compared to the imperial – not well. But on its own, not bad.
Pours very dark brown with yet another small head. Very, very thin aroma of coffee and malts. Taste is mostly coffee, a little caramel and roasted malts. Fairly thin bodied with a medium lingering finish. There really isn’t much else to say about it. It’s decent but unspectacular.
Totally arbitrary score with holiday reference: 3/5 Christmas Presents
Final note: I’d like to give big props to both Central City and Parallel 49 for their efforts on the Advent Calendar this year. As I noted in the first post, there was a huge improvement from year 1 to 2, and I’d have to say year 3 saw yet another jump in quality. At this rate, expectations for year 4 will be completely, unreasonably high…
Also…I WON THE BET! I OWE MYSELF MORE BEER!
Merry Christmas everyone!
