[Travel / Beer] 17 Spots on Vancouver’s North Shore Ale Trail

Mr. and I got a taste of our post-pandemic world while exploring Vancouver’s North Shore Ale Trail for three days in early July. That’s 16 long months after the first COVID-19 lockdown in March 2020! We checked out a total of 17 spots in North Vancouver, including 9 craft breweries.

On our trip, we made a stop at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, kayaked for 3 hours in Deep Cove, explored the Shipyards District, went for a waterfront stroll, and were basically in a constant food and beer coma.

There are so many options in Greater Vancouver for craft beer lovers to find amazing food and beer pairings. You are probably familiar with gastropubs and bars such as Alibi Room, St. Augustine’s and O’Hare’s. [Craft Beer] 2018 BC Beer Awards Event Recap and Winners List

On October 20, 2018, winners of this year’s BC Beer Awards were named. The ceremony was held in conjunction of a tasting event with 60 breweries setting up shop at the Croatian Cultural Centre.

BC Beer Awards received 1,085 entries from 109 breweries. The judging took place over 3 days and was performed by a panel of BJPC (Beer Judge Certification Program), Cicerones and Pro Brewers from all over North America.

Like last year, there was also a Brewers Challenge. Participating breweries were challenged this year to brew something with fresh hop. It can be any beer style. The judging took place as we were given a tour of the space.

And I must say, it’s pretty awesome to see Lien Yeung at CBC as the emcee, especially with her on the step stool. I can totally relate!

Postmark Brewing & Vancouver Urban Winery + Giveaway

Have you been to the Settlement Building in Railtown? Did you know you could find wine, beer AND food in that one place?

The Settlement Building is home to the Vancouver Urban Winery, Postmark Brewing, and Belgard Kitchen. The Vancouver Urban Winery (VUW) produces wines from 100% BC grapes. For example, the VUW 2014 Merlot was made with 100% Merlot grapes from Osoyoos and Naramata. You would taste dark cherry fruit and sweet spice. Not only do they source grapes from a number of Okanagan vineyards and produce their own labels, but they also collaborate with other wineries such as Road 13, Seredipity, and Backyard Vineyard.

Postmark Brewing mixes west coast lifestyle with the love for one (or two) great pint. Postmark Brewing was also the winner of the SMaSH Brewers Challenge at the 2017 BC Beer Awards event. Postmark makes some interesting beers; recently they just launched the Ginger Wit – it’s a Winter Ale balancing North West hops with the warmth of dark, rich malts. It’s hazy yellow, with a subtle ginger note.

[Craft Beer] Twin Sails Brewing’s 2nd Anniversary Beer Releases #BrewersRow

A couple of weeks ago, Twin Sails Brewing in Port Moody celebrated its 2nd anniversary. To celebrate, they released a total of 8 beers on Friday, November 10, at their anniversary party.

Bryan can attest to the fact that I’m not the biggest advocate for TS because I’m not a big IPA drinker, and TS has made their name with all the interesting IPAs (among other beers) that they’ve produced over the last couple of years. That being said, I was really curious about one of the new releases, so to the contrary of my usual behaviour, I decided to join the crowd, meet up with Bryan (the huge TS fan) and check out the anniversary party. In fact, I even convinced a few of my colleagues to tag along.

And then, a 40-minute line-up later, I got to try all 7 of the 8 new releases that were available at the anniversary party. By this point, my colleagues had given up on me, and went to Yellow Dog next door instead.
