On March 21, Jugo Juice launched a revamped food menu with 4 new sandwiches and 5 new wraps.

The new sandwiches are served on heritage sourdough from local bakery Terra Breads or a brand new natural and preservative free artisan bun from Ace Bakery called schiacciata.

I was invited to a media tasting of the new items and got to try the 4 sandwiches:

Arnold Bread recently launched four varieties of premium bread in British Columbia and Alberta. We were sent a couple loaves to try, and the possibilities with this product are endless!

With the No Small Potatoes Country Potato Bread, we made Toast with a delicious pistachio spread. We also made some PB& J and Grilled Cheese with it. There’s a hint of sweetness in the potato bread. While it’s good on its own, it also makes a good canvas for rich and bold flavours. I actually thought the bread reminded me of potato chips but Mr. said I was crazy!

As for the When It Grains, It Pours 12 Grain Bread, the texture of the bread is perfect for sandwiches. Not only did we make HLT Sandwiches (ham, lettuce, tomatoes) for picnic…

…we also made our own Oyster Po’ Boy Sandwich at home! The nutty flavours in the grain worked so well with meat and veggies.

Another season of McRibs came and went. What is this that I’m feeling? Anger? Sorrow? Regret? Heart burn? I’m not entirely sure.

All I know is, whatever it may be, it doesn’t hurt as much as the first time.

It’s like your first love. The world seems to stop when it ends, but comes the second, and third, and all the others following just don’t seem to matter so much.

All the same, I am dedicating this post to the end of another season of McRib in Canada. I hope you’ll come back again. But even if you don’t, I think I’ll live.

Brief History

The McRib was first introduced in 1981, but due to lack of popularity, it was discontinued only a few years later. With the exception of being a permanent item in Germany, the McRib has only made sporadic appearances since then. Having appeared in the Simpsons (as Ribwich) and other places in popular culture, it’s a relatively well-known item.

Visually speaking the patty is now just a rectangular block, whereas (if I remember correctly) before, it took on the shape of a slab of ribs. (more…)

To the followers of VanFoodies, I am a new contributor to the blog. Hope you enjoy my future posts!

It was a sunny day, a day where I burnt my arm and worsened my Tom’s (shoes)  tan by sitting at a tiny sandwich shop at the corner of Pender and Homer. The interior is stuffy almost on hot days, but that doesn’t stop customers from piling into the shop.

The inside of the shop is old. Tables and chairs are fairly dated, maybe picked up from garage sales or vintage stores, glass jugs sitting at the counter with cucumber or lemon water, random ancient books in the corners gathering dust. As soon as you walk in, you look up at their menu, which consists of several chalk boards of chicken scratch handwriting of their different sandwiches, teas, cheese plate, etc. If you look to the side wall, there’s some peeling paint which may possibly explode moths out the wall any second. Beware.

This is one of my friends' sandwiches, the baked brie and pear.

Throughout history, there has been much discussion about what it means to be a man. There are many qualifiers, and they change overtime–not by a lot, but they do. Luckily, the world has guys like me to follow as examples.

When KFC’s Double Down Sandwich was first introduced in the US, I knew right away this delicious meat on meat on more meat sandwich will one day end up in my tummy. Call it man-stinct or what have you, I just knew.

While travelling through Washington, this day came. I started it like any other day, full of vigour and testosterone. However by the afternoon, I wasn’t feeling up to my usual self. So after I wrestled with a couple great whites, fought with a band of ninja pirates, and conquered a few local villages, I decided to call it a day and pickup a colonel’s Double Down for dinner.

As it turns out, that was my manliest experience of the day.
