To celebrate its 85th anniversary this year, White Spot Restaurants has been working on a big project — its very first cookbook. On November 18, they have launched The White Spot Cookbook.

The White Spot Cookbook features classic dishes and contemporary entrées inspired by local celebrity chefs, like John Bishop of Bishop’s – all specially tailored for the home cook. Fully illustrated with beautiful food photos and iconic images from its archives, it is a collection of the restaurant’s signature recipes, its story of innovation, and memories from staff and celebrity guests like Michael Bublé, Red Robinson, Pat Quinn and more.

The cookbook is authored by Kerry Gold, a journalist who has covered the stories of many musicians, pop culture icons and entrepreneurs. She is a regular contributor to the Globe and Mail and other publications; she also co-authored Michael Bublé’s 2011 memoir, Onstage, Offstage.

To help celebrate this milestone with White Spot, we are giving away a copy of this new cookbook, with an autograph from Kerry.

Triple O’s #SecretMenu – One-upping the Double Double

This is probably a sign that I don’t eat enough fast food. I never knew there’s a secret menu at every restaurant. Not until I learned of this secret menu item at Triple O’s, mentioned it to Mr., then I finally realized the power of customization at restaurants. You mean, I could’ve ordered two pieces of chicken in my McChicken this entire time? I have missed out a lot all these years!!

In celebration of White Spot’s 85th anniversary, Triple O’s has introduced a secret menu item — the Triple Triple Burger. I was offered the opportunity to give this a try, but knowing that it’s one decadent item, I invited TC to come along and split a combo with me.

Off its regular menu, one can order a Double Double at Triple O’s: two beef patties, two slices of cheese, and two pickles topped with its famous Triple “O” sauce. Then what is the Triple Triple? It’s Triple O’s biggest burger yet. It’s a 3/4lb burger made with — you guessed it — triple beef patties, triple cheese, lettuce, tomato and Triple “O” sauce topped with triple dill pickles. You get why I had to split the burger with TC now?

White Spot’s “Adult Pirate Pak” Day Reaches its 5th Year

It’s time to channel your inner child! This Wednesday, August 15, 2012, White Spot will once again hold its popular “Adult Pirate Pak” Day. The only day in the year, adults will be able to order a Pirate Pak, and for every kid and adult Pirate Pak sold, White Spot will donate $2 to Zajac Ranch for Children. This is the 5th annual Adult Pirate Pak Day, and White Spot raised over $46,000 just last year. To-date they have raised more than $152,000 for Zajac Ranch through this initiative.

If you grew up in BC, Pirate Paks should be no stranger to you. The special edition “Adult Pak” is only available on August 15 and starts at $10.99. It features a choice of four delicious burger options, including the Legendary Burger, Bacon Cheddar Bigger Burger, Provolone Veggie Burger on a multigrain bun and the B.C. Chicken Burger. Each meal is served with fresh-cut fries, a soft drink, a scoop of premium ice cream and a “gold” chocolate coin.

Adult Pirate Pak Returns to White Spot

Last year, we checked out the annual Adult Pirate Pak Day at White Spot. We just learned that it’s returning for its 4th year.

On August 17, kids and the kids inside all of us can order their childhood favourite — Pirate Pak at White Spot. This special edition “Adult Pak” will be available this Wednesday and this Wednesday only. Starting at $10.49, you have the option of the Legendary Burger, Bacon Cheddar Bigger Burger, Provolone Veggie Burger on a multigrain bun or the BC Chicken Burger. Each meal is served in the iconic boat and comes complete with fresh-cut fries, a soft drink, a scoop of ice cream and a chocolate “gold” coin. For each “Adult Pak” they sell, White Spot will donate $2 to Zajac Ranch for Children. More than $40,000 were raised through this fundraiser in 2010.

Last year we tried to customize our order, and our server was willing to accommodate our requests. It was a win-win, since we got an Adult Pak and there was more donation to the charity. I hope they will allow customization again this year since it’s all for a good cause.

Triple O’s On The Go – Mobile Food Truck

Last week, I went to a picnic in the park-wait for it-ing lot. What, parking lot? Yeah, how else could we check out the spiffy new Triple O’s food truck!

Triple O’s just launched its first mobile food truck. In fact, it’s the very first food truck in Canada that is owned by a quick service restaurant chain.

My first thought is that it’s entering the food truck scene in Vancouver. Nope. This food truck will be visiting around town, dropping by community events, and it may even show up at your next corporate party! Better yet, it’s also served a test kitchen where they serve menu items that are not available anywhere else and collect feedback from customers. And that’s exactly what we did at the picnic.
