Long’s Noodle House

I don't often blog about Chinese food because my mom makes great Canton-style dishes (think stir-frys). However we do appreciate other Chinese cuisines and sometimes go out and about for great finds. Shanghainese is one of our favourites, and here's one that we always go for our Shanghainese food fix - Long's Noodle House. The restaurant doesn't look all that fancy on the outside, but don't let that fool you. It serves some really great food.

Between tomorrow and Sunday Oct 23, Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver is holding its food and beverage festival, Savour. It's a series of tasty events to help you discover the various food vendors at the market. Many thanks to Lonsdale Quay Market, we have a few Market gift certificates to give away. Enter here.

Suika Snackbar

Van Eats Media invited us to try out Suika Snackbar's special package called Suika Me Silly. What a silly name. I was a bit hesitant, but when I checked out the photo gallery on Facebook, I was intrigued. Suika Snackbar is a sister restaurant of Kingyo Izakaya on Denman Street. Suika is also an izakaya restaurant serving tapa size dishes. The package we tried is a sampling menu featuring 6 dishes, some are on its regular menu, some are not. This package is available at a limited quantity for $16 in the month of October.

Fairmont Hotels’ Culinary Apprentice Dinner

Through work I was among one of the lucky ~300 guests who attended the Fairmont Apprentice Dinner. This is a culinary debut of cook apprentices from seven Fairmont properties: Waterfront, Pacific Rim, Hotel Vancouver, Vancouver Airport, Chateau Whistler, Empress in Victoria and Olympic in Seattle. Emceed by Coleen Christie of CTV, it's a six-course dinner with wine pairing.

Event: Arts Club’s Fall 2011 Celebrity Chef Cooking Classes

The Arts Club Theatre Company just announced the lineup of its Fall 2011 Celebrity Chef Cooking Classes series. In May, Mr. and I were invited to one of the Spring classes and it was a ton of fun. We truly enjoyed Chef Ned Bell's food and the warm hospitality of our host Leah.
