For office luncheon, we often opt for restaurants that are close to the office. For our latest service recognition luncheon, we decided to venture out and go for something farther in distance. We first chose Thai food as our choice of cuisine, then we selected Papaya Hut as our destination.

Papaya Hut is located south of the Burrard Bridge. As our office is located in the downtown core, we weren’t sure if they would deliver. Luckily, we had big enough of an order and with advance notice, they’re willing to deliver the food to our office.

Food

The food was not bad. The portion of the dishes was rather decent. We’ve had multiple orders of each of the following: Chicken Satay, Green Papaya Salad, Tom Yum Gung (Spicy Prawn Soup), Swimming Angel (Peanut Chicken), Red Curry Chicken, Green Curry Pork, Yellow Curry Beef, Vegetables with Thai Black Bean Sauce, Pad Thai and Steamed Coconut Rice.

Everything was on par with my expectations, except for the soup. The prawns weren’t fresh (although as expected) so the soup wasn’t at its best. The three kinds of curry were good, worked very well with rice and the yellow one was my favourite. Pad Thai was so-so but it’s not bad. The Thai black bean sauce gave the vegetables a little kick which made it that much better. Some other coworkers’ favourites include the Swimming Angel, Green Papaya Salad and the Green Curry.

Service

I was definitely surprised by their service. We had requested for delivery at 11:45am. At 11am, I received a call from them, to confirm the order, address and delivery time. While you may think that they have forgotten the information hence calling to get it again, in my perspective it gave me more confident in their service. It made me believe that they would deliver the food on time because they had called to double check. And in fact, they did deliver the food on time, despite a little issue with the parking around the area.

Final Thoughts

I certainly realize that there are better Thai restaurants, but for the price that you’re paying for, I think Papaya Hut offers a decent value for your money. A place to consider for ordering delivery if you are within close proximity.
