A surprise birthday party turned deadly and it’s one of Dine Out Vancouver 2026’s Tasty Events this year. Killer Birthday is the 4th chapter of Vancouver Mysteries’ Murder is a Drag series, and it was so. much. fun! The event promptly starts at 8pm so we arrived at around 7:30pm to get settled in. There are a few guest roles that the audience can play, so I would suggest you to arrive even earlier if you want to participate (door opens at 7pm).

We were all guests of a surprise birthday party and a murder took place right in front of us! Detective Sherlock Homo led the investigation and we had to solve puzzles and find clues in order to catch the murderer. The cast, including Dandy, Glimmer Rouge, Queen Kong, and Ben Anna Split, was amazing. We laughed, and we were thoroughly entertained.

I can’t spoil it for you but I’m sad to report that the murderer managed to elude Mr.‘s and my scrutiny. One smart junior detective who guessed the murderer correctly went home with a fabulous prize from Vancouver Mysteries.

Each $90 ticket (includes taxes and fees) includes a charcuterie box from the Black Casket Cafe and the casket-shaped box was chef’s kiss. I learned that the cafe works with a local butcher, Sumas Meats, to source their meat, and I always appreciate local collaborations. The charcuterie casket was loaded with a wide variety of cheese and meat and crackers — I was expecting a snack-sized box, but it was a meal. I think it’s a really good value.

Besides the charcuterie casket that comes with the ticket, you can add some desserts to your order, including a coffin-shaped raspberry pie and a birthday cupcake. All food items are pre-orders only, but you can buy drinks at the event. This event took place inside a black box studio space, so it felt more intimate, and the lighting was well suited for the occasion.

If you like drag, murder mystery, quirky charcuterie boxes, or, in general a good time, check out Killer Birthday before February 8. There are a total of six shows during Dine Out Vancouver and there are only a few tickets left for each show. Or, go to Vancouver Mysteries’ website for future dates of any of the four chapters of Murder is a Drag. And if you like escape rooms and scavenger hunts, you should also check out Vancouver Mysteries’ outdoor games. I’ve done all but one and I enjoyed every one of them.
