There’s a direct correlation between how cold and wet the weather gets, and my craving for warm and rich food. I’m sure I’m not the only one to feel that way.

After a short hike on a chilly Saturday morning, we popped into Burgoo in North Vancouver for a late lunch.

We were a little tired, a little cold, and very hungry. It was well past lunch time.

The décor was much more modern and welcoming than their Main Street location.

We got to eating pretty quickly.

What Went In

I went with the Eggs Burgoo. It’s got three scrambled eggs, served on top of oven baked Kentucky Burgoo (slow cooked lamb, beef, and smoked ham with lima beans, corn, molasses, tomato and okra), biscuits, and melted cheddar.

This gloriously rich dish is a mind numbing explosion of flavours. All the ingredients of the burgoo infused into each other, and blended perfectly into the soft and “sweet” scrambled eggs, which acted as a sort of blank canvas. The only downside was that the biscuits were served on the side, cold. It would’ve been even better toasted and then placed inside the bowlful of burgoo.

Joyce had the After School Special (soup + sandwich combo), which included the Dos Diablos Sandwich with the Decadent French Onion Soup (extra $3). If you are in the mood for something light, this sandwich is not for you. The bread is practically fried in butter. The spicy sausages and the sweet caramelized pepper and oil do help even out the grease a bit. The French Onion Soup had a thick cheesy topping, with a relatively light broth — a nice finish to a meal of comfort.

What went out

Although the prices are a little expensive considering the fairly simple menu, they do a great job with simple. Location also plays a factor in cost as well.

Service

Not much to comment on. Everything went as expected.

Conclusion

They have the perfect meal for a cold, damp day — warming your heart, soul, and filling up your arteries. As far as brunch goes, this was extremely satisfying.
