We were approached to experience a new online coffee seller at GotMyBeans.com. The premise of the website is the freshness of the beans — “We ensure all beans delivered to our customers are freshly roasted, providing the unique aroma and flavour the Master Roaster intended. Our inventory is managed just-in-time, obtaining supply from our partners only to meet the immediate demand of our customers. No coffee sits on our shelves for more than five days. “ — as a coffee drinker, quality and freshness of beans do matter to me, so I was intrigued and agreed to give it a try.
The eCommerce website is pretty straightforward. You select the beans you want, put in an order and go. The nice thing is that it has a user review feature that allows you to read about what other fellow coffee drinkers think. I liked its clean design, too.
Upon placing the order, it is shipped when they receive the freshly roasted beans. Then it would be sent to you via Canada Post. I received the shipment within 1 week from ordering. You can smell the roasted coffee beans even through the packaging.
And as soon as you open the box, it’s as if you are circulated by a cloud of coffee beam scent. My pack of beans stated that it was roasted just the day before my order date so definitely fresher than what you get at grocery store. I couldn’t wait to grind some beans and make some fresh espresso.
I was recommended to order the Diabolique Premium European Espresso beans by Republica Coffee as it’s one of their best sellers. Republica Coffee is based out of Fort Langley and they specialize in fine single estate coffees from around the world, roasted to best exemplify their flavour profiles.
It was quite good. It had a nice crema, rich and nutty, and didn’t have the sourness that some beans may have. I was quite happy with the recommendation.
Final Thoughts
Of course, with the number of boutique/independent coffee roasters in Vancouver, there is no shortage of fresh coffee beans. But GotMyBeans.com gives you the convenience of shopping at home while still being able to enjoy freshly roasted beans. It currently carries only 3 brands of coffee but as it expands this will be a good alternative to travelling/driving a long way to buy your beans. You do have to pay for shipping, but it’s waived if your purchase is over a certain amount or if you opt for the monthly subscription service.
