It was Papa Lam’s birthday earlier this month, and I took Mama and Papa Lam out for a day of, surprise, eating and drinking. The first stop was brunch at The Hard Bean Brunch Co. in Port Moody. It was only a Friday, but they have an everyday brunch menu plus other casual eats like burgers, finger appies, and bowls, and oh, an attractive sweets menu.

Food
We ordered three items and they were all very tasty. First of all, it was really cool to see Yorkshire pudding in an eggs benedict, instead of English muffin. The flavour and texture was richer. It costs an extra $8 to order salmon for the Yorkshire Benny, and it’s cooked salmon (vs. smoked salmon that you typically see on eggs benny). They were generous salmon pieces, though, and were cooked well.

The Barnyard Omelette was very good, with lots of vegetables inside the omelette, plus what they call the “hard ham”, which are like roughly shredded pork pieces. The hard ham was very flavourful and there was plenty of it. Their smashed browns were crispy outside and fluffy inside. I don’t usually eat much of my hash browns, but I couldn’t stop eating these.

The same hard ham and smashed browns were used in the Hard Bean Co. Hash and Papa Lam really liked it. He actually couldn’t stop talking about how tasty the ham was, and how much there was of it. The eggs were poached medium soft and I love me some runny yolks.

Final Thoughts
Overall, we really enjoyed our meal. The restaurant gives you a casual, pub vibe, but I like that you can get brunch here everyday. And it was basically full on a random Friday at lunch, just short of filling up the bar. There were a few other dishes on the menu that caught my eyes, so I would definitely go back for more!
