4th Annual Spot Prawn Festival Kicks Off on May 8
It’s that time of the year again. Just a few weeks ago I had the first taste of this season’s spot prawns and they’re just soooo yummy!! We had them two-way at home – sashimi and boiled – and we could taste the natural, sweet flavour of the prawns.
For the fourth time the Chefs Table Society is hosting the annual Spot Prawn Festival and it kicks off with a community event this Saturday, May 8 at the False Creek Fishermen’s Wharf. For the next 6-8 weeks, take the opportunity to visit the Fishermen’s Wharf and buy some locally sourced, sustainable spot prawns. They are really that good!
For more information, visit the Chefs Table Society’s website.
As always, happy eating!
Cheers,
Joyce
Oh spot prawns (at least they look like) at T&T are only 5.99 a pound. They are not bad.

Which T&T? I’m pretty sure T&T never sold spot prawns at $5.99 because that’s below cost. And my dad would be buying loads of them since he’s basically right there…

I happened to come across your website and see that you had the prawn in sashimi. I was just wondering are there any preparation you need to do before having them as sashimi? or you just rinse them and eat them right away?

Hi there, sorry about taking so long to respond. To clean the prawns, we simply rinse the prawns, peel them (leaving only the tail on) and remove the vein (the black stuff) on the back . Then, we place the prawns on a plate, plastic wrap the plate and put it in the freezer for 15 minutes. This is just our way of preparing the prawns. I heard you could also put the prawns in ice water instead of freezer. You can probably find other methods online.
Cheers,
Joyce
