Macarons at Kitchening with Carly

The talks about macarons continued and I started a conversation with Carly of Kitchening with Carly. I decided to place an order and have them deliver to me. Carly graciously offered me the price of $12 for 6 macarons and waived the regular $10 delivery charge (a fee normally charged for orders of less than 4-dozen macarons).

It was even better when meeting Carly in person as she delivered the macarons to me on a Friday afternoon.

Food

Carly gave me the option to choose my own assortment of macarons, so this is what my assorted box included:

  • Pistachio Macaron with Pistachio Butter Cream
  • Raspberry Macaron with Passionfruit Butter Cream
  • Lemon Macaron with a tangy Lemon Curd Filling
  • Chocolate Macaron with Dark Chocolate Ganache
  • Raspberry Macaron with Balsamic Butter Cream
  • Cassis Macaron with Jam Filling

Overall the macarons were great and they all had the proper, chewy texture to it. I decided to include a pistachio one because I wanted to re-discover my love for pistachio. And this macaron made me believe in pistachio-flavoured items again. It was super nutty, the pistachio flavour was very prominent, all the while the almond taste was enhanced.

And I loved the chocolate macaron! The dark chocolate ganache in the middle was so decadent it’s like eating a bonbon on its own. The lemon and cassis ones were also pretty good. I enjoyed the tartness in the lemon curd filling (I can probably handle something even more tart) and the sweetness of the cassis macaron. Be warned that the jam filling of the cassis macaron may make the cookie mushy if you waited too long.

On the other hand, the flavours of the two raspberry ones were milder and not as tasty as I expected. I couldn’t really taste the balsamic in the butter cream, and to me, the passion fruit butter cream was a bit over-powering.

Final Thoughts

Carly uses only natural ingredients to make her macarons, with no artificial flavours or colours added to her product (e.g. the red colour was enhanced using beet juice). The macarons were on the small size but I felt that Carly’s macarons are done in the more proper way. I really enjoyed my box of macarons and I recommend that you give it a try. Pleased to learn that Carly’s macarons are not only available online, but are also available at Urban Fare as well as select markets, cafes and special events.

  1. Great to meet you Joyce! So neat to hear everyone’s personal favourites. So far the Rasbperry Passionfruit is the #1 best seller in each of the Urban Fares and it is so interesting to me that I’ve received several specific tweets or emails from fans announcing their love for our Espresso Macaron (which you didn’t try in your assortment this time around), however, in my last delivery to the Sangri-La Urban Fare they didn’t order more of these because they were moving slower than the others. Goes to show our palates are all so unique. Happy macaron hunting and enjoying!
