On our way to a business meeting, KB, AM and I stopped at Patron Tacos & Cantina for lunch. It is around the Robson/Cambie area with a lot of new eateries popping up.
Food
Every table starts with some in-house made Tortilla Chips & Salsa. Tortilla chips seem to be the standard affair, thin and crispy, but the salsa was less chunky than most salsa. It was darker than most, and was quite flavourful with some heat and spices. I could keep on snacking on those.
At lunch, Patron offers several lunch combos range from $9.50 to $13, which seem to be of smaller portion size from its regular/dinner menu. I chose the Huarache combo because I’ve never had it before. It’s a fried corn dough with toppings including feta cheese, sour cream, black beans, salsa and Chicken Tinga.

Chicken Tinga Huarache – In house hand stretched corn dough, feta cheese, cilantro & onion, sour cream, black beans, salsa. Salad
The fried dough itself is dense and chewy. It’s not like light and fluffy like a Beaver Tail type of donut, and on its own it doesn’t have much flavour. There was a good amount of toppings, got a good share of black beans and shredded chicken. The chicken was seasoned well. The lettuce gave it a nice crunch but personally I would’ve liked less of it. The salad is like a regular green salad, but I did enjoy the raspberry vinaigrette-like dressing. Very refreshing salad for the summer.
Atmosphere
Patron is a Mexican Restaurant X Sports Bar, with a few big screen TVs playing your favourite sports. The space itself is quite big for a Mexican restaurant and it does give a relaxing vibe. The servers were friendly and service was quite fast given we only had about 30-40 minutes for lunch.
Final Thoughts
By consensus I think all three of us quite enjoyed our lunch. Patron would make a nice spot for lunch or a good option as a pre-game hangout since it’s so close to Rogers Arena and BC Place.
