Food Cart Fest has returned to the Olympic Village! Every Sunday starting June 22, 20+ food trucks gather together to serve you some awesome eats on wheels. On the opening day on June 22, we went to the VIP preview event and got to sample the trucks before the event was open to the public.
Food
There was a lot to sample. Here is a round up of what we tried:
Chickpea Salad at Vij’s Railway Express – Refreshing and like the additional crispy texture from the popped rice
Perogies from Holy Perogy – Eastern European comfort food served on a food truck
Mushroom Gravy Poutine from Kaboom Box – Rich with earthy flavour from the mushrooms
Burger and Cold Pressed Juice from The Burger Joint (run by Mangal Kiss) – This definitely satisfied Mr.‘s craving for a good burger!
Dirty Fries from Feastro – Loads of ingredients here, with good balance of flavours.
Chicken Karaage from Mogu – Totally see why this is popular, but Hi Genki still has the title of the best chicken karaage I’ve had.
Cotton Candy from Cloud Nine Cotton Candy – Cotton candy made with cane sugar; what a cute thing to have on a food truck. I only tried the mango flavour and it tasted quite good.
Popsicles from Johnny’s Pops – An awesome ending to our sampling! The avocado & lime popsicle was creamy and rich with tropical flavours; the mango/yogurt/strawberry popsicle was very refreshing as well. This had one of the longest line-ups.
It’s very admirable that Food Cart Fest strives to produce zero waste from the event. There are stations set up throughout with staff to assist the public in sorting their garbage. That being said, I still wish there are more stations – they were quite far apart and not very convenient.
What a fun way to spend your Sunday afternoon! The line-up of food trucks changes every week so be sure to follow Food Cart Fest on Facebook or Twitter for updates.
