Nineteen beloved restaurants, cafes and breweries in the Strathcona neighbourhood in Vancouver will come together to participate in Dine Strathcona 2021. A culinary event coordinated by the Strathcona Business Improvement Association, Dine Strathcona runs from November 17 to 30, 2021, to raise money in support of vulnerable community members within Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
Each participating restaurant will have a menu feature, and $5 from every sale of those features will be donated to the festival’s 2021 community partner, HAVE Culinary Training Society. HAVE Culinary Training Society provides accessible food service training and employment opportunities to members of the community who face barriers to employment such as poverty, homelessness, addiction, and mental health challenges. Over the past 14 years they have successfully trained 1,200 students with over 75% of them gaining steady employment in the tourism and hospitality industry.
Some of the participating Strathcona restaurants, cafes and breweries include Dosanko, Harken Coffee, LanaLou’s Restaurant, Luppolo Brewing Company, The Mackenzie Room (their “Chicken of the Sea” is the feature and it’s a must-order there!), Railtown Cafe, Strathcona Beer Company, Superflux, and VV Tapas Lounge. A couple of years ago, I attended a media tasting of a few of the participating establishments, so feel free to check out this Dine Railtown post from 2019.
You can view the full list of participating establishments and their respective menu feature on the Dine Strathcona website.
