Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
You know what, up until I moved to Canada I never knew the existence of this holiday, let alone celebrating it. Then I found out it’s a religious holiday – but shamrock, leprechuan and the pot of gold also got thrown in the picture! Anyway, in North America, part of our tradition is to drink up a Shamrock Shake from McDonald’s. And I didn’t know about this until after St. Patty’s Day last year! So as soon as March rolled around, Mr. and I went to McDonald’s and grabbed a Shamrock Shake.
Of course, what you see in ads is always better than the real thing. I was a little bit disappointed by its appearance because it’s not as green as it looks in the flyer – and it looks so normal! Taste wise, it’s minty milk shake. Objects such as toothpaste and gum came to mind. It’s not as sweet as I imagined – it’s actually quite refreshing. Not as heavy as a triple-thick chocolate milkshake.
This is only available in March and only at selected McD’s stores. If you want to look up the participating locations, check out this link: Find the Shake.
Ah! You found the one McD’s location in Coquitlam that has it! Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience — as in, you are so nauseated by the time you finish it you never want to try it again!

Actually it wasn’t in Coquitlam. I think more stores were offering it this year, at least 3 stores from what I remember. We went to New West for it, and I think one of the Surrey stores also had it. It wasn’t as bad as you described it! I thought it’d be sweeter. We had to constantly stir it so the green and white wouldn’t separate lol!
