When we were in London, Mr. really wanted a Sunday Roast, so a friend living in the UK suggested that we check out Hawksmoor, a steakhouse with multiple locations in the UK as well in the US. Since our hotel was close to the Spitalfields location, that’s where we ended up.
For £27 per person, we got this beautiful plate of slow roast rump cooked to a perfect medium pink (you have a choice of pink or well done), and it comes with crispy beef dripping roast potatoes, the biggest Yorkshire pudding I’ve ever seen, carrots, greens, roasted garlic and a luscious bone marrow and onion gravy.
I was only expecting bits of bone marrow, but BIG CHUNKS were coming out of my gravy boat and I certainly wouldn’t complain! The meat was tender and everything else was cooked really well. The roasted garlic and horseradish are a must with the meat. Each plate included small edge pieces as well, which were more cooked, but they were flavourful and not dry at all. I ordered a glass of the Hawksmoor Malbec (£16) and it paired well with the meat. Mr. chose the house red (£10) and it was a bit too light on the palate. Overall, we were super happy with our meal.
And if you don’t like rump as the cut, you can also choose a “sharing cut” (for two or more people), including Prime Rib and Chateaubriand, from the blackboard at market price, and add the trimmings at £9 per person.
We arrived a little bit before its opening at 11:30am, and there were already a number of parties waiting for the door to open and be seated. We didn’t have a reservation but managed to get a table, but the decent-sized dining room was easily filled up by 12:15pm, so I recommend making a reservation just to be safe. I also noticed a number of solo diners (likely visitors) enjoying their Sunday Roast too.
