Last Christmas holiday, Mr. and I went to the Lights of Christmas in the US. Yes, it’s the largest in Pacific Northwest, but there’s a holiday light display right in our backyard. Best of all, it’s free — the Lights at Lafarge in Coquitlam.
The event just ended last weekend. Did you catch it before it ended? If not, let me share some pictures for you:
The 1-km stroll around the Lafarge Lake became quite magical. Different sections had different themes, and there were plenty of photo spots. Some of my favourites were the twinkling waterfall, under the chandelier, the light tunnel, and the big red maple leaf.
I went last year, too, so I was a bit skeptical to start, thinking they would just repeat the lights. To my surprise, they introduced a few new displays, and mixed up the arrangements, so to me, it’s all brand new again.
Did you know? Mr. and I had our wedding photos taken here, so Lafarge Lake always has a special place in my heart. Now, isn’t this romantic?
Travel Tips
- Public transit – Lafarge Lake is right by the Lafarge Lake/Douglas station of the Millennium Line Evergreen Extension, so it’s quite convenient on transit.
- Parking – there’s street parking (parking charges may apply, check the signs), but you can also park for free in the Town Centre Park.
- Bundle up – it could get quite cold out there, especially on a dry evening.
- Wear winter boots – depending on the weather condition, it could get muddy, or icy. Last year, when it snowed quite a bit, it was actually slippery in many places. My camera was scratched as a result of that.
If you missed it, I’m sure they will bring it back later this year. Well, I sure hope so. It’s a popular family activity this winter and many of my friends have visited from near and far. Until then, hope these photos will keep your festive spirit up!
