The highly anticipated PABLO Japanese Bakery will open its doors on July 21! PABLO is famous for their decadent cheese tarts and it has won over the hearts of many in Japan. They have locations in other parts of Canada and the first Vancouver location at 511 West Broadway is finally opening! I was one of the lucky ones to have a sneak preview of the interior and a tasting of the menu.
On the menu, you will find mini cheese tarts priced between $4.75 and $4.99; large cheese tarts $17.99-$19.99; and premium & basque cheese cakes $17.99-24.99; and smoothies for $7.25. They also have imported PABLO cheese tart flavoured dacquoise cookies from Japan for purchase.
Currently they have 15 flavours of mini cheese tarts. Their popular Original flavour of course is on the menu. The most eye-catching ones for me are Strawberry Daifuku Mochi, Creme Brulee, Roasted Almond Marshmallow Chocolate, Chestnut, Ube and Tiramisu. There are also other fruit-forward flavours such as Apple Cinnamon, Blueberry, Mango and Peach. You can also get the minis in boxes of 6 for $28 or a box of 12 for $55. I have tried a few, and the flavours were on point with creamy fillings!
For smoothies, I tried Classic Cheesetart, Strawberry and Ube flavours. Overall, I personally found the smoothies on the sweeter side but I order my bubble tea 50% sugar or less so it’s really a personal preference. Out of the three, ube was my favourite, and strawberry was like your classic strawberry milkshake. The cheesetart one has an apricot syrup drizzled on top.
As for the 6″ large cheese tarts, there are Classic (with an apricot flavoured jelly on top, similar to the smoothie), Matcha (with red bean inside), and Chocolate (with melted chocolate chips). You will also see the brulee Premium Cheesecake, Earl Grey Basque and regular Basque Cheesecake available right now.
I know Vancouverites are very excited about this pending opening. On July 21, their hours are 11am-8pm, and the first 50 customers in line will receive a FREE large Freshly Baked Cheese Tart with a minimum $5 purchase.
