Dine Out Vancouver is back for its 21st season! Running from January 20-February 5, 2023, 366 restaurants are offering prix fixe menus between $20 and $65 (side note: this was up from $20-$59 last year). Now that we’re settling into our new “normal”, I think more people would want to do this again this year. However, with the increasing food costs that we have been experiencing, I have my doubts about the value and attractiveness of these menus.

As per previous years, I took the time to review the menus and here are what caught my eyes, based on past experiences (Dine Out or otherwise), Google review (if it’s a restaurant that I’ve never been), as well as menu attractiveness (e.g. value for the money, choice of ingredients, creativity in the menu, enough options for two people, etc.). Also keep in mind that I curated the list based on my preference (as you know, I’m a meat lover and I’m biased against chicken and salmon) and my way of thinking, so it may not necessarily suit your taste. But hopefully this gives you a place to start.

Because of the arbitrary prices, I have organized my list into Brunch/Lunch and Dinner. You will find a link to the menu, as well as listed price, to help you make decisions. Remember, my recommendations are for that specific menu and specific location(s) only, even though the restaurant may have other locations and menu options. If you have been to any of them, let me know what you think!

Tea lovers can find Walini Tea, a household Indonesian tea brand since 1998, in the International Foods aisle of 500 Loblaw locations across Canada, including the Real Canadian Superstores in Metro Vancouver. Currently, four flavours from the Walini Tea Bag collection are available in-store: Black, Jasmine, Green, and Lemon. The Tea Bag collection is perfect for those who are looking for an affordable, convenient option to experience Indonesian highland tea while still reaping the health benefits of the quality product.

Made from tea leaves grown at 800-2000m above sea level, Walini Tea products offer strong flavour, distinctive character and excellent taste. Walini Tea has its own tea plantation and processing operation that sees the tea leaves be processed directly from the farm into the finished product. It ensures consistency in quality and standards, as well as the preservation of the freshness and health benefits of the tea, including catechin and other polyphenolic content that are powerful antioxidants.

Dine Out Vancouver is back and it’s celebrating its 20th anniversary! Running from January 14-31, 2022, over 300 restaurants are offering prix fixe menus for dine-in or take-out priced between $20 and $59 (side note: this was up from $15-$54 last year). It was very exciting to be able to dine in again when things opened up last year. Things may be a bit iffy now but you can still enjoy Dine Out Vancouver whether it’s dine-in or take-out.

As per previous years, I took the time to review the menus and here are what caught my eyes, based on past experiences (Dine Out or not) as well as menu attractiveness (e.g. value for the money, choice of ingredients, creativity in the menu, enough options for two people, etc.). Also keep in mind that I curated the list based on my preference (as you know, I’m a meat lover and I’m biased against chicken and salmon) and my way of thinking, so it may not necessarily suit your taste. But hopefully this gives you a place to start.

Same as last year, with the varied price points, I have organized my list into Lunch, Dinner, Take Out, and Special Offer. I’ve included a link to the menu, as well as listed price, to make it easier for you. Remember, my recommendations are for that specific menu and specific location(s) only, even though the restaurant may have other locations and menu options. If you have been to any of them, let me know what you think!

Taste of Yaletown is back for its 17th year! For the first time, it will run for the entire month of October, with restaurants offering special menus created especially for the event.

This year, Taste of Yaletown (TOY) is putting an emphasis on community and bringing the community back together safely. For every TOY menu sold, Yaletown Business Improvement Association (YBIA) will be donating $2.00 to The Greater Vancouver Food Bank and Yaletown House, a not-for-profit long-term care home for seniors. In addition, the YBIA has partnered up with Earls Yaletown to buy lunch for all 150 staff at the Yaletown House to give thanks for keeping Vancouver seniors safe during the pandemic. Yaletown House is the only seniors home in Vancouver with zero cases thus far. All 150 staff members will be able to book their lunch at any time that works best for them.

Also new to TOY this year is the “Healthcare Happy Hour”, to honour and celebrate every healthcare worker that has been on the frontlines of the pandemic. Taking place every Wednesday during TOY at 4:00-6:00 pm at Bill Curtis Square, healthcare workers can stop by the event for some live music, and pick up a gift basket put together by Yaletown businesses and restaurants. The YBIA will also be setting up a community board where Yaletown visitors can share their own messages of appreciation and support for healthcare workers.

Participating restaurants include Banter Room, Bistro Sakana, Brix & Mortar, Cactus Club Cafe, Grand Chinese Restaurant, Hapa Izakaya, Provence Marinaside, Robba da Matti, Sushi Maro, The Flying Pig, The Greek by Anatoli, and WestOak. Restaurants will be sharing their special menus on their social media channels.

I am excited to be a part of the NBRHD Restaurant Development Program, initiated by REEF Technology, to help Vancouver restaurants launch a delivery business. The restaurant industry has been hit hard this past year due to COVID, and many have turned to delivery and other innovative ways to keep their business afloat. This private grant money will provide some relief to a few restaurants, and perhaps help expand, preserve, or resurrect some beloved culinary concepts from going under and be lost forever.

The following is the official press release issued by REEF Technology:

REEF Launches Local Restaurant Development Program in Vancouver, Pledging $125K to Help Area Businesses Expand as Part of $1.25M Program

REEF, the largest operator of neighbourhood kitchens and urban logistics hubs in the United States and Canada, announces today the expansion to Vancouver of the recently launched NBRHD Restaurant Development Program, designed to help local restaurants scale their delivery business and provide marketing support through REEF’s Kitchens platform.

In total, REEF Technology has earmarked $1.25M CAD in grant money to support qualifying local restaurants across North America over the course of the next few weeks and months. Restaurants with fewer than three locations qualify to apply for the program, and REEF encourages applications from local women, minority and Indigenous-owned restaurants.
