On the weekend Mr. and I went on this snowshoeing tour put on by Natural Trekking, a Valentine’s Day gift from Mr.. It’s an evening hike up the Bowen Lookout Winter Trail on the Cypress Mountain. It’s a moderate hike, approximately 1 hour each way – perfect for newbies like us. Now, you must be wondering, what does snowshoeing have to do with food? Well, I’d be wondering the same thing, too.
Turns out this wonderful gift from Mr. included a treat midway through our hike (he probably knew I couldn’t be convinced to go snowshoeing unless there’s some kind of incentives).
What a brilliant idea! We spent an hour hiking in the snow, temperature continued to drop as we climbed higher and sun was setting; then we were greeted with a warm, yummy chocolate fondue when we got to the viewpoint. I was expecting a gazebo of some sort, but no, it’s out in the open with seats built with snowbanks.
It’s actually really cool (pun intended) the way how it was set up. The view at the lookout was gorgeous and breathtaking. It’s the closest to the nature’s beauty – something you can’t find at a restaurant.
While taking in the view we didn’t feel chilly at all, since the hot chocolate fondue kept us warm. It’s definitely different from having fondue indoor at a restaurant. It didn’t take us long to finish our treat! And our return trip was very interesting, having to hike back in the dark forest with only a headlamp and each other to guide our way.
All in all it was a great experience. A shout out to Lois at Natural Trekking – she did an amazing job as our guide and now it got us interested in doing snowshoeing again. Until next season…
beautiful views, I find that food always taste better when you’re up on a mountain.. is it just me?
