On the rare occasion that CC and I got to hang out we chose to check out CandyTown in Yaletown, and we decided to first grab a bite at Small Victory Bakery.
Food
While CC opted for a sandwich, my eyes were set on those fluffy croissants in the showcase. I didn’t simply go for a butter croissant, though; I wanted a Breakfast Croissant. Sadly they sold out of it, so I went for the Bacon & Cheese Croissant instead. It’s light, fluffy, buttery. Then, as I got to the middle, there’s melted cheddar cheese with some meaty bacon. Of course, for the meat lover in me, I wish there’s more bacon. But because the cheddar cheese was also salty, too much bacon would’ve shot the salt level through the roof. This was perfectly balanced, and seriously, I could’ve easily had another one of these.
Christmas is just around the corner, so obviously I had to order a seasonal item. Cue the Mont Blanc.
Whiskey flavoured chocolate sponge cake, chocolate ganache, chantilly cream dome and chestnut puree — it was light and creamy, not overly rich. The tart crust was quite nice, slightly crumbled as I dug in with a fork. For me, the chestnut puree was a bit too light in flavour; didn’t have the rich, nutty taste that I was expecting from chestnuts. It could also be sweetened just a bit more, since the chantilly cream dialed down all kinds of flavours in the cake.
I wouldn’t leave a coffee shop without a cup of joe. The Latte was very good. The latte art was pretty and it’s almost glittering when I picked it up at the counter. Perhaps I took too long to take pictures; by the time I took my first sip I thought the latte was just lukewarm. That being said, I usually prefer my hot drinks extra hot, so it could just be my high tolerance to temperature. Next time I might consider ordering extra hot.
Atmosphere
The interior decor of Small Victory was very clean. High ceiling, wooden beams & floor, marble coffee bar, with brass detailing — it’s minimalist, it’s modern, it’s certainly hipster haha!
Final Thoughts
Food & drinks here at Small Victory are relatively reasonably priced. I would order any of the croissants again and again. The cakes also looked very pretty. There are not that many seats, and people tend to hang around at coffee shops, so finding a seat here could be a challenge during peak times.

Great review, my London fog latte, roast beef sandwich and cannoli were pretty good too.
