Here are a couple of hot chocolates for kids or kids at heart! Kafka’s Coffee has two creations for the Greater Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival and they are both quite fun.

Hot Chocolates
The first one has a cookie “pizza” slice! The Ultimate ‘Kids’ Hot Chocolate is a creamy milk chocolate topped with whipped cream, sprinkles, and mini marshmallows. The “pizza” slice was covered in classic candies, such as M&Ms, Oreo and pretzels. It was a bit too sweet for my liking given all the sugary goodness that’s in the drink as well as on the cookie, but I can see its appeal to children. In fact, I showed a picture to a mom and she thought her kids would definitely choose it.

The other one is Boba Boom Choco-Latta, which is a warm 40% milk chocolate with hojicha milk tea and tapioca pearls. I certainly preferred this one over the other, but I was a little thrown off by the temperature. It’s intended to be served at a drinkable (luke)warm temperature, and I like my hot drinks piping hot. You can taste the hojicha milk tea in it, but I thought the flavour would be even more prominent had it been hotter. The pearls were of good texture. The accompanying black sesame chocolate truffle was tasty. Overall, an Asian take on a hot chocolate beverage.

The Space
Both hot chocolates are available at all 3 Kafka’s locations. I’m the most fond of The Park location on Richards Street. The live edge tables were gorgeous, and it’s the prettiest when sunlight bounces off the installations off the ceiling.
